POSITION SUMMARY: As the site supervisor for the Skagit YMCA School Age Youth program you are responsible for planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate after-school program for elementary school students. This position leads an assistant teacher at the site and upholds Washington State Licensing Requirements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Plans and implements curriculum in accordance with the goals and policies of the Y After School program.
- Coordinates activities that fit the childrens developmental needs.
- Prepares materials and learning areas, participates in or guides activities for the social, nutritional, physical, emotional, and academic development of children.
- Supervises a group of children to ensure their health and safety, and to provide for a positive experience for each child.
- Communicates with and maintains positive relationships with families. May conduct conferences as needed.
- Maintains ordered arrangement, appearance, decor, cleanliness, and learning environment of the site.
- Order, purchase and maintain program and snack supplies as needed.
- Make sure that all snacks meet USDA requirements and that these standards are met daily.
- Attends required trainings and meetings to stay current with information and program requirements.
- Follows Y policies and procedures, including those related to disciplinary situation, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures.
Qualifications & Benefits
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Be a minimum of 21 years old and have a high school diploma or a GED.
- One year of experience or more in program planning preferred.
- Have experience working with children 5-12 years of age.
- Must have child development knowledge and experience.
- 45 or more college quarter credits in early childhood/child development, or possess an equivalent educational background, or be a certified child development associate (preferred). Or 30 credits in elementary education, or the educational equivalent, in courses such as recreation, physical education, education, music, art, psychology or social services.
- Demonstrated ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Childcare Education, Background Checks, and other trainings are required and supported by the YMCA after you are hired!
