Summary of Position:
The Behavior Specialist is responsible for conducting observations and behavior assessments to develop positive behavior support plans and/or make recommendations for other services. Behavior Specialists will support classroom teachers and other school staff in the implementation of behavior supports and strategies as well as develop data collection methods and collect or assist in the collection of data regarding behaviors and interventions.

The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of all personnel within this position.
Develop behavior plans and specific intervention plans for students and assist in their implementation and conduct ongoing follow-up assessment/evaluation/observation of progress on the behavior plans.
Develop data collection methods for monitoring the effectiveness of behavior intervention plans, assist with or collect data, analyse data collected and make recommendations to the student’s team
Work in a collaborative manner with student’s team to develop behavior supports and to ensure successful and efficient implementation of behavior support plans that preserve student dignity.
Stay current with research regarding evidence-based best practices in behavior intervention related to students served.
Keep high quality records of behavior interventions and data collection in a timely manner.
Attend team meetings for students served. Present data analyzed regarding effectiveness of behavior intervention supports and progress.
Perform other duties that are assigned
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Requirements are representative of minimum levels of knowledge, skills and/or abilities. To perform this job successfully, the incumbent will possess the abilities or aptitudes to perform each duty successfully.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Knowledge of federal and state laws related to exceptional student education.
Ability to work collaboratively with others and facilitate groups to consensus.
Ability to effectively engage in the problem-solving process.
Ability to collect, summarize, and graph behavioral data.
Ability to use and model research based classroom management and individualized behavioral interventions.
Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, orally and in writing, including electronic media.
Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage work assignments in an efficient manner and within established timeframes.
EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:
Degree of School Counselor or School Social Worker preferred
Bachelor’s degree in related field required, Master’s degree preferred
Experience in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) desired
