Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is an independent, skilled labor position for the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County under the direct supervision of the MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR I - SES, responsible for the daily housekeeping and custodial duties at different locations throughout Miami-Dade County. Requires to following an assigned established schedule; adheres to policies and procedures and manufactures recommendations for cleaning and safety; utilizing correct supplies, tools, and equipment; makes effective judgment and decision; appropriately observe custodial and safety issues. Serves as an ambassador for the department, establishing good rapport and providing customer service to staff and clients.


Ensures restrooms are maintained clean and sanitized throughout the day. Replenish paper towels, toilet tissue and soap in all restrooms as needed. Clean, mop, scrub, grout clean, all sinks, fixtures and mirrors, walls, partitions, floors, etc. Dust, wash and sanitize all surfaces to include walls, furniture, chairs, counter and tabletops, file cabinets, windowsills, window treatments, doors, handrails, assigned equipment, etc.


Sweeps, mops, scrubs, and vacuums floors and stairwells as needed or assigned throughout the day. Immediately cleans/ mops liquids/solid spills, stains, residues related to any incident, as needed, requested, or as observed throughout the facility. Wash and clean all interior/exterior glass doors, windows, and enclosures throughout facility.

Clean /polish / inspects drinking fountains. Maintains custodial storage and supply closets organized and clean.


Performs offices furniture and equipment disinfection and deep cleaning for contagious disease prevention.


Maintain inventory control of products used for specialized disinfection and sterilization. Assist maintenance supervisor receiving custodial and maintenance items deliveries. Create and submit request forms of cleaning products for disinfection project.


Assist maintenance supervisor overseeing outside contractors during facilities cleaning projects related to environment and air quality controls and disinfection for contagious airborne disease and other contractor work projects carried out for the facility.


Inspects building for any signs of infestation and report findings to supervisors.


Gathers and empties trash/recycling containers throughout the facility, making sure they are free of contaminates. Follows biohazardous waste policies and procedures. Sweeps and clean interior/exterior walkways and doorways around facility. Assist in keeping outside premises and parking areas in an orderly condition, free of leaves, trash, debris, etc.


Completes appropriate floor treatments as scheduled or assigned including vacuuming, mopping, buffing, burnishing, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, grout cleaning, pressure cleaning, etc. Utilizes proper equipment and supplies for tasks, following manufactures recommendations and safety protocols. Reports equipment malfunctions.


Completes special cleaning/ setup /maintenance assignments, such as refrigerators, pressure cleaning, AC ducts/vents, UV lights, etc. Reports facility/safety issues that require resolution.


Sets up meeting rooms, arranges, and removes tables, chairs, equipment, decorations, etc.


Participates in workgroups and attends meetings, conference calls and trainings as requested. Ensures email communications are maintained daily and the accurate completion and timely submission of all administrative requirements including EAR’s, timesheets, reports, responds to Serv FL alerts, etc.


Performs other related duties as assigned.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to operate and auto scrubber.
  • Ability to operate propane burnishes and follow all safety precautions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing in English.
  • Skills on how to utilize a computer.
  • Ability to perform all custodial functions noted in job description.
  • Ability to follow written and oral directions.
  • Ability to perform work dependably with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to operate heavy cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to move furniture and equipment weighing up to fifty pounds.
  • Knowledge of carpet and floor care.
  • Ability to make minor maintenance and plumbing repairs.
  • Ability to use your abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without giving out or fatiguing.
  • Ability to bend stretch twist, or reach with your body, arms and/or legs.
  • Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • Considering the relative costs and benefits or potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.

Qualifications:

Minimum –

Experience in housekeeping or performing custodial duties.
