An exciting and challenging opportunity awaits a self-motivated and active individual with strong leadership and communication skills to fill the position of Park Manager at Florida Caverns State Park. The selected candidate for this position will need to possess good supervisory skills, as well as knowledge, skills and abilities in all areas of park service management including administration, maintenance, resource management, visitor services, and protection.

Cool air, the sound of dripping water, a visual array of mystifying stalactites, stalagmites, flowstones and draperies this is what greets visitors when they explore the otherworldly depths of Florida Caverns. Florida Caverns offers visitors a rarity in the state, a chance to explore stunning caves. While moving between the large underground rooms, one can observe the many chisel marks made by 1930s-era Civilian Conservation Corps workers. These hard-working men enlarged the cave passageways by hand so visitors could stand upright during the guided tours. They also built the park’s spacious visitor center.

Pay:

Base salary $3,181.30 per month $38,175.54 annual


Your Specific Responsibilities:


Compliance with the processing requirements of Chapter 215.422, F.S. is mandatory. Persistent failure to comply with this section by any agency of the state shall constitute good cause for discharge of employees duly found responsible, or predominantly responsible, for failure to comply.


ADMINISTRATION – Implements and enforces all laws, rules, operating policies, leases, agreements, and permits pertaining to this area. Provides for employee selection training, supervision, and discipline. Administers the terms of the collective bargaining agreement and maintains good employee relations. Prepares multi-fund budget requests, provides for effective expenditure of appropriations, supervises the collection of fees, is responsible for all facility and equipment inventories, and implements established policies for fiscal control and accountability. Ensures preparation and implementation of work schedules and assignments for the staff. Manages concession and service contracts. Assists in development and management of grants. Sets realistic park goals and schedules and coordinates effectively to achieve.


VISITOR SERVICESImplements and supervises interpretive programs. Meets the public, interprets the area’s resources, facilities, and services; resolves visitor complaints; and provides for good public relations. Works cooperatively with a variety of governmental agencies, media groups, Citizens Support Organizations, and other community service groups. Oversee and direct fund raising efforts on behalf of the park and in cooperation with the park CSO. This will include the development of grant applications, fund proposals and development activities with eh park CSO. In addition to paid meetings and functions and ensures that the CSO is kept informed about all park issues and developments on an ongoing basis.


RESOURCE MANAGEMENTImplements and guides the resource management plan for park units including ecological burning, water manipulation, native species propagation, erosion control, and exotic plant and animal removal. Operate various vehicles and equipment to assess resource management needs and oversee ecological burns. Ensures that the parks’ natural and cultural resources are managed to ensure the restoration and preservation of the resources in the park.


MAINTENANCE – Identifies and plans maintenance needs and provides management of the staff to maintain the facilities and support equipment for efficient operation of park units. Operates various vehicles between areas to assess maintenance needs and oversee operations. Ensures that the parks’ facilities and grounds are maintained to a high level of public expectations.


PROTECTION – Ensures park rules are enforced pertaining to all natural, historical and archaeological facilities and resources and use thereof, for the enjoyment of the visitor.


OTHER Performs other related duties as required.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Budget oversight, personnel management, FPS administrative policies and operational procedures
  • Historic facility maintenance
  • Natural resource management practices, to include prescribed burning, exotic plan and animal management, and endangered species management
  • ADA requirements for public facilities
  • Quality visitor service and customer relations
  • Inventory control and tracking

ABILITY TO:

  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Effectively supervise people
  • Work with media groups, governmental agencies, park Citizen Support Organization and community service groups
  • Manage concession and service contracts
  • Develop and manage multiple budgets

  • Reside on park property
