Job Description:

The incumbent in this position will, under structured supervision, work as a member of the Production Services Team and will work in the area of audio materials production at the Braille and Talking Book Library within the Division of Blind Services in Daytona Beach, Florida.

  • The employee’s performance and behavior must demonstrate consideration of the work load concerns of others and must not negatively affect the productivity and morale of the unit.
  • Attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Assure the timely and accurate duplication of recorded materials in both the audiocassette and digital cartridge formats.
  • Manage scheduling the work, the maintenance of the unit’s equipment, the recycling process for the media and the overall flow of materials through the unit.
  • Follow the quality assurance policies and standards of the National Library Service (NLS) of the Library of Congress.
  • Train and supervise the volunteers who are assigned to the unit and work with them to make sure that their time is optimized and used efficiently.
  • Responsible for producing braille labels for materials and will provide this service when needed for items not requiring duplication.
  • The employee must always model a high level of safety awareness when working with equipment.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent and two years of library experience.
  • College education from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours for each year of the required experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the services of the Braille and Talking Book Library.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Be competent with technology and be proficient in or able to learn digital recording and/or editing software.
  • Be willing to continually train on current processes and protocols.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication.
  • Effective organization skills.
  • Knowledge of methods of compiling, organizing and analyzing data.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • The employee should have a good working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite and should thoroughly understand the proper use of equipment in the unit.
  • The employee should have good communication skills and be able to articulate the needs of the unit with the volunteers assigned to that area.
  • The employee must also be able to walk, stand, bend at the waist, reach overhead and lift a maximum of 25 pounds safely and easily.
