Position Summary:
This position is on the Refund and Disclosure Team within Audit Services. The primary duties and responsibilities involve researching, analyzing, and verify/processing sales and use tax refund requests $500,000 or greater and may contain multiple complex legal issues. This position is responsible for organizing and assigning refund requests to appropriate associates within the Refund team and must be familiar with all sales tax types and applications to determine the degree of complexity to make case assignments. Position educates customers by phone, email, and in writing on applicable laws, policies and procedures relating to sales tax exemptions and the proper way to apply for a refund. Position is also point of contact who works with legal staff to resolve taxpayer refund appeals for these larger claims.

Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Minimum Qualifications: Two years of experience in examining internal work processes, financial and operational records and controls to assess effectiveness, accuracy of records and compliance with statutes, regulations and professional/legal standards. Education in accounting/auditing, business administration, or economics may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.

Licensing & Certification: Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid driver's license to perform the essential functions of this position.

Preferred Education: Prefer graduate from accredited 2 or 4 year college or university, with major course work in accounting.

Preferred Experience: Ability to communicate correspond professionally and proficiently. Knowledge of Kansas Sales and Use Tax Statutes and Regulations preferred.

Preferred Skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Lotus Notes, proofreading, editing, and attention to detail.

Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: KBI and FBI fingerprint required due to access to Federal Tax Information files in KDOR systems.
