Safety Specialist

Overview

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Observe and assess the organizational safety processes and make recommendations on how to improve in functional areas as it relates to the overall safety and wellbeing of personnel, equipment, and facilities. Individual analyzes, organizes, plans and administers various staff assistance visits as required while coordinating with division level safety personnel to identify safety related trends, best practices, areas in need of improvement, and other duties as assigned by management to include, but not limited to:

• Provide timely support in safety disciplines – including system, explosive, range, occupational health, and environmental across a multitude of divisions by implementing all applicable safety and environmental protection laws, regulations, and requirements.  
• Create and sustain a comprehensive, vigorous, proactive, prevention-focused safety program.• Support the Chief of Safety and Division Safety Officers embedded in geographically dispersed support areas.
• Identify and assess safety hazards and risks in support of test and evaluation (T&E) and support operations; recommend mitigations.
• As a safety expert representing the organization's Chief of Safety, participate in Hazard Analysis Working Groups (HAWGs).
• Participate in quarterly Commander’s Safety and Occupational Health Advisory Council (SOHAC) sessions.
• Participate/conduct quarterly division level Safety Councils.
• Assist in reviewing organizational Standing Operating Procedures (SOPs), Test Safety Risk Assessments (TSRAs), and supporting documentation in accordance with RTC Supplement to ATEC Regulation 385-1, U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command Safety Program.
• Perform safety audits and inspections; provide documented results and recommendations.
• Participate in mishaps and near-mishaps safety investigations, documenting and reporting findings.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Shall have a BS degree from an accredited college.
• Shall have five (5) years' experience directly related to industrial, facility, and personal safety and environmental programs.
• Shall have familiarity with Army safety and environmental publications and regulations and have experience in drafting policies and procedures from DoD, federal, state, and local government safety and environmental regulations, for application at the organization level.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

• Preferred experience: Three (3) years of missile or aviation systems test and evaluation experience

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS:

As a condition of employment, must pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results.
