What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Supervisor position at The Tile Shop?
Essential Responsibilities:
- Perform a variety of tasks including the daily facility open and closing, maintenance and set ups.
- Open and close the Kroc Center on a daily basis. This will require arriving or leaving the facility approximately 30 minutes before or after posted closing times, as well as staffing for after hour events (including all night parties).
- Perform opening inspection to ensure facility is clean and all systems are working properly.
- Perform maintenance task as directed by the Facilities Director.
- Coordinate and perform room set ups and take down as directed by the Event Sales Manager. Be available to attend weekly event meetings as needed.
- Operate basic audio-visual equipment such as microphones, computer projectors and video screens.
- Perform custodial tasks which include removing trash, and cleaning floors, sinks, carpets, and toilets.
- Serve as a parking attendant during large events.
- Remove snow by shovel, snow blower or plow vehicle.
- Provide supervision of Kroc Center part time staff, members and guests that ensures a safe and secure campus and facility.
- In the absence of a direct supervisor, provide general supervision to all part time staff members who are currently working in the facility. Ensure staff is on time and following policies and procedures. Provide reports to managers of any positive or negative work performances by departmental staff.
- Directly supervise the seasonal Campus Attendant position.
- Act as the first responder to any accident, injury, incident, or emergency on the campus. Complete the necessary accident and incident reports in detail and within 24 hours. Collect witness statements and utilize the surveillance cameras to provide documentation to the Operations Director. Contact the Grand Rapids Police Department or 911 when necessary.
- Enforce facility safety guidelines consistently and without bias.
- Assist front line employees with difficult customers or situations when additional support is needed.
- Reassign part time employees to different work areas when situations such as absences or high demand require it.
- Serve on the Safety Committee at times directed by the Facilities Director.
- Attend Manager Meetings on a bi-weekly basis.
- Serve as Manager on Duty during designated shift
- Assumes a manager-on-duty role garnering the respect of staff, members and guests
- Ensure the safety of the members, guests and staff at all times. Report any issues to the Operations Director
- Gather information and make informed decisions based on the needs of the Kroc Center and its members and guests
- Observe, assess, and act on situations to provide outstanding customer service and to ensure policies and procedures are being adhered to.
- Must be knowledgeable of all emergency codes and procedures and implement/orchestrate these procedures as needed
- Have a basic working knowledge of all departments
- Ability to troubleshoot employee and facility issues and concerns
- Assist with POS transactions, cash handling as needed
- Assist with guest relations when needed i.e. café, welcome desk, fitness desk check in etc. to ensure timely guest service
- Engage and connect with staff and guests, taking the opportunity to be an example for the staff
- Be the primary point of contact for sensitive situations including incidents/accidents, if a guest is disgruntled or would like to lodge a complaint
- Maintain progressive knowledge of the activities, programs and marketing promotions occurring in the Center to ensure execution is seamless and guest/member expectations are met
- Ensure your presence within the building and grounds, consistently checking in with each department but not in a “predictable” pattern
- Assist with the closing procedures related to the kiosks, departments and facility as needed signing off on departmental checklists ensuring they are accurate and complete
- Notate observations/incidents/concerns on the MOD Report and provide recommendations
- Secure the POS area at the open and close of each shift
Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
- High school degree required.
- Higher education or Associate’s Degree preferred.
- Two years of supervisory experience is required.
- Additional two-year experience in safety, security or maintenance is preferred.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Be able to read, write and communicate in English with the preferred ability to also communicate in Spanish
- Be at least 21 years old.

- Have CPR/AED/First Aid certification or obtain within 45 days
