Normal Work Schedule: Flexible; Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm


Job Summary: The Research Assistant I assists with research work in support of a major research project under close supervision. Assists with ordering equipment and supplies. Aids in the set up equipment. Perform experiments. Monitors results. Collects data. Prepares support material.


Additional Department Summary: Works in the Cognition and Intellectual Disabilities Lab in the Psychology Department at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Assists with a 5-year NICHD-funded study investigating longitudinal cognitive changes in teens and young adults with Down syndrome. Recruits and tests participants. Manages data. Trains and supervises undergraduate researchers.

This position is ideal for a candidate who is looking for significant research experience before applying to graduate school and/or for a candidate who is looking for a multi-year research position.


Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED.


Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Ability to work flexible schedule for testing.

Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.


Skills and Knowledge: Interest in Down syndrome research. Excellent scientific writing skills. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Excellent attention to detail. Excellent computer skills, including Word and Excel.


Preferred Qualifications: Experience with people with disabilities. Experience administering standardized assessments for research.
