Job Summary: The Student Life Program Manager I provides oversight and planning for the development, implementation, and delivery of one or more programs, services, or activities within a department. May supervise professional staff. Part of the Student Life Career Progression Plan.
Additional Department Summary: The Manager for Student Services and Outreach reports to the Director of Career Education and Development. They provide oversight and planning for the delivery of career services to students, prospective students, and alumni. Provides leadership, coordination and training to staff on the delivery of services to students and outreach efforts to diverse populations of students and alumni. Collaborates with other program managers in order to maximize the delivery of programs, resources, and services for all client populations and works with other related staff in order to enhance career development and employment services for students. Participates in regional and national professional organizations and conferences related to the mission and services of The Career Center. All of these efforts, when appropriate, should be coordinated with Career Center staff, Division of Student Life staff, staff within other divisions of the university and external constituents and vendors. Provides direct supervision for assigned staff. S/he must promote respectful and inclusive participation of diverse populations and organizations in order to achieve individual and organizational success and support the commitment to making a positive effort towards the physical, emotional, social, and academic well-being of all students. Many things compete for student attention and a student services plan that is respected by the academic community is essential for the effectiveness of the Career Center.
Responsible for completing required training and promoting a safe, hospitable, and respectful workplace. Responsible for holding staff accountable for completion of required training. Has personal accountability for financial reporting and responsibility for establishing, enforcing, and following internal processes and controls as outlined in UA policies and procedures.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience; OR Master's degree and one (1) year of experience.
Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge of Career Theory and Development. An understanding of unique needs of diverse client populations.
Demonstrated commitment to expand multicultural knowledge, awareness, and skills as evidenced through: demonstrating self awareness; understanding and valuing others; demonstrating knowledge of social inequalities; interacting effectively with a diversity of people; fostering equity and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications: Masters in student personnel, human resources, counseling, higher education, communications, or a related field preferred. Knowledge of and qualification to administer career assessments is preferred.
