GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Student Success Librarian will develop, implement, and evaluate programs and services to support a diverse community of researchers at the University of Chicago. This position will work collaboratively with Library staff, University faculty, staff, and other UChicago community members in engaging students with the Library’s collections, and resources. Following the direction of the Head of Research and Instruction, the Student Success Librarian ensures that Library programming and services support the Library’s mission, vision, and strategic directions.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serves as liaison to campus partners who support the University’s diverse student community, including the Center for Identity Inclusion’s offices of Multicultural Student Affairs, Student Support Services, and LGBTQ Student Life, the College’s Center for College Student Success, Office for Military-Affiliated Communities, and the Office of International Affairs.

Develops information literacy programs and research services in collaboration with these partners and UChicago subject librarians to support undergraduate learning and student success.

Collaborates with Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) and other leadership programs managed by the UChicago Center for Leadership and Involvement to develop instructional programs and services to support extracurricular activities on campus.

Works with the Head of Research and Instruction to develop and manage new student orientation programs, including open houses, table events, and other activities.

Develops outreach programs and events for students to elevate, promote and encourage the use of, and connections with, the University of Chicago Library.

Evaluates the success of outreach and instruction programs developed in this role.

Manages one or more of the Library’s social media accounts (currently, the primary Twitter and Instagram accounts), creating campaigns and original content to promote the Library, its collections, and services.

Manages and develops Library tours and workshops for campus partners, alumni, community members, visiting researchers/scholars, and coordinates the Library Student Advisory Group.

Participates in virtual research services as part of the Research and Information Services Team (RIST).

Serves as the librarian for Library Science and oversees the selection and collection management of the Reg Reads recreational reading collection.

Creates displays to highlight the diverse collections of the University of Chicago Library.

Serves on Library committees supporting reference, instruction and outreach services, along with other workgroups supporting the institutions’ mission, goals, and strategic initiatives.

Participates in local and national groups focusing on issues relating to diversity, inclusion, information literacy, and outreach.

Monitors emerging national trends in library outreach and instruction.

Assumes other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
-
Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program
-
Public service experience in a college or university library
-
Demonstrated graduate school or professional work experience developing and delivering outreach programs for a diverse community
-
Demonstrated teaching or library instruction experience in a college or university
-
Demonstrated experience providing virtual and/or in-person reference services
Preferred:

Experience developing information literacy instruction

Experience working with undergraduate students

Demonstrated knowledge of social media apps and tools

Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in providing services

Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a constantly changing environment

Ability to learn and apply emerging trends and technologies in library instruction and research services
