Job Summary
.The Blood Donor Center Technician is responsible for all services related to blood donation. These services include donor marketing/recruitment, donor scheduling, determining donor eligibility, collection of whole blood and platelet apheresis while ensuring donor and recipient safety. Additional responsibilities include performing and monitoring quality control and following all regulatory requirements including AABB, FDA and CAP.

Essential Job Functions
.- .
- Performs donor health screening and history assessment to determine donor eligibility according to regulator agency requirements. .
- Ensure all questions on the donor history questionnaire are answered and fully explained/documented as appropriate. .
- Performs whole blood and automated platelet apheresis collections on eligible donors as well as patient therapeutic phlebotomy procedures. .
- Monitor donors for adverse reactions. .
- Follows all regulatory requirements and good manufacturing practices including strict adherence to donor identification, blood product identification and documentation. .
- Analyzes all test and quality control results for errors, inconsistencies and deviations prior to determining donor eligibility. .
- Initiates and documents any troubleshooting to resolve donor or equipment issues. .
- Practices the proficient and safe use of all equipment necessary for the completion of all duties and responsibilities. .
- Follows all maintenance, safety and quality control policies and procedures in the department. .
- Prepares and maintains adequate inventory of reagents, supplies and control materials and notifies supervisor of any shortages or problems. .
- Schedules Donors and optimizes to reduce wait times. .
- Performs all aspects of this position to ensure the excellent donor experiences. .
- Create marketing campaigns and engage in donor recruitment to increase new donor pool as well as retain established donors. .
- Prepare for blood drives including scheduling management, equipment and supplies relocation for off-site drives, blood bag preparation, safe storage/transport of collected blood units. .

- Must satisfy CLIA 88 qualification requirements .
- High school diploma or equivalent .
- At least one-year clinical laboratory or related experience .
- Knowledge and ability to safely use laboratory and hospital information systems .
- Knowledge and ability to use automated/conventional laboratory equipment .
- Organization of time, materials, and processes .
- Ability to interact effectively and professionally with colleagues and other healthcare workers .
Preferred Qualifications

- MLT (ASCP) certification/eligibility preferred .
- Associates Degree preferred .
