The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation is seeking a Physician Assistant (PA) to work on our Total Joint Team. The PA will work collaboratively with other PAs and NPs, residents, and faculty surgeons within the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation. The PA will be expected to provide outstanding care to Total Joint team, working in an outpatient clinic setting and in the OR.. This requires delivery of collaborative care with the Total Joint team as well as other consulting teams in the hospital. In addition, the PA will be expected to provide occasional cross coverage to other Orthopedic inpatients. This role requires someone who is organized, motivated, and very efficient. No weekends and no call with this position.
The APP will be expected to deliver excellent care, preform and interpret diagnostic testing (X-rays, advanced imaging, labs), perform injections, and prescribe, dispense, or deliver medications under a collaborative practice agreement.
It is expected that the APP show a willingness to learn, collaborate with a team, and provide cross coverage for the team when needed.
Perform /order medical, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures,
Prescribe, dispense, and/or deliver medications under a collaborative practice agreement.
Consult/collaborate with other care team members. Use judgment to apply/adopt information within total clinical picture to address health issues while influencing others to adopt best practices.
Complete patient medical records, reports, and forms to record treatment for EMR and billing purposes. Improve quality of care by performing chart reviews and participating on performance improvement committees.
Provide health education to patients and medical education to health professions students and residents. Participate in ongoing research and professional development of self and other staff.
Establish and maintain procedures and systems to ensure staff compliance with policies and standards of care. Initiate corrective action as needed.

Education Required
PA: Must comply with registration and licensure requirements as specified by the Iowa Board of Physician Assistant Examiners which include graduation from an accredited PA educational program and/or certification by the NCCPA.
Experience Requirements
3 years of patient care experience gained through education, job experience, or rotations is required.
Demonstrated experience and/or knowledge of orthopedic patient care is required.
Demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment or promoting a diverse environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Highly Desirable Qualifications
Experience working in medical-surgical inpatient, surgical inpatient, orthopedic outpatient, or orthopedic surgical setting is highly desired.
Master's Degee in Physician Assistant Studies
