The department of Molecular Physiology & Biophysics is seeking a Research Specialist to conduct experimental research work using a combination of biochemical, physiological, and behavioral approaches to study electrical brain networks of complex brain disorders such as migraine. This person will be responsible for the generation and interpretation of experimental data and requires a lead role in the general management of all operations of the Hultman laboratory in the Carver College of Medicine.
Position Responsibilities:
- Perform and oversee complex stereotactic surgeries
- Oversee administrative function of the laboratory
- Perform experiments
- Collect and analyze data
- Prepare manuscripts for contributing author for publication
- Judge the validity of data obtained from experimental procedures
- Prepare presentations (seminars and lectures) of the research results
- Train, schedule, assign and evaluate work or support personnel and students in biochemical, physiological, and behavioral methods and data analysis
- Contribute to new or continuing research grant proposals to obtain funding for research activities

Required Qualifications:
- Requires the academic knowledge of a discipline plus the ability to translate, adapt and apply the knowledge that is generally associated with a Master's degree in the biological sciences. Progressively responsible experience in the conduct of natural or health science research or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Three to five years of experience with laboratory experience
- Expert experience with stereotactic surgeries in mice
- Excellent fine motor skills, dexterity, and spatial skills
- Conceptual and technical knowledge of neuroscience
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Demonstration of success working in a diverse, multidisciplinary environment
- Respectfulness, flexibility, trustworthiness, adaptability, foresight and anticipation
Highly Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience with maintenance and genotyping genetically modified mice
- Experience with IACUC record-keeping and protocol development
- Experience with analysis and record keeping software (GraphPad Prism, MATLAB, Microsoft Office, etc.)
