Position Summary / Career Interest:
The New Patient Intake Coordinator is the first point of contact for new patient referrals to the University of Kansas Health System. This role partners with the clinical staff to ensure the intake process is coordinated efficiently to improve timeliness to care for new patients. The Intake Coordinator is accountable for the registration, initial insurance screening, scheduling, and medical information collection to enable a meaningful initial consultation.

3) Demonstrates competence in the areas of critical thinking, interpersonal relationships and technical skills.
4) Demonstrates high verbal and written communication skills.
5) Serves as a point of contact for those patients being scheduled to receive treatment in the clinic.
6) Provide information regarding patient plans of care to treatment nursing staff.
7) Collaborates with physicians, nursing staff, management, pharmacists and other ancillary staff.
8) Possesses knowledge of administrative policies and departmental procedures.
9) Attends and actively participates in any staff training or education which relates to their position and would contribute to their knowledge.
10) Responsible for other duties or projects which are assigned by Management. These may include special projects, patient supervision, filing, scanning, copying and other duties as instructed.
11) Coordinates, communicates, and assists in monitoring work flow and work tasks necessary to manage fluctuating volumes.
12) Performs all duties in a manner that protects the confidentiality of patients and does not solicit or disclose any confidential information unless it is necessary in the performance of assigned job duties.
13) Monitor scheduled nursing visits for treatment patients. Evaluate and communicate nursing-related patient care concerns and issues to pharmacy and clinic teams prior to the arrival of the patient. Follow up on the concerns and issues to ensure proper changes have been made and/or addressed.
Required:
- High School Diploma
- Minimum of 6 months in a healthcare environment
- Minimum of 6 months in a direct customer service environment and/or experience in a call center or switchboard environment
- Exceptional computer skills including Advanced Keyboarding skills, proficient in computer languages such as outlook, Microsoft Word and Excel
Preferred:
- Associate Degree or higher
- Medical Record and Scheduling experience
