Job Summary
The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Comptroller. The Assistant Comptroller reports to the Comptroller and is responsible for providing high level support with the university's accounting and reporting, policy and procedure development, auditing and risk control of general ledger activity, and taxation activities.
Responsibilities
- Preparation of financial reporting quarterly and annually as required in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Preparation of pre-audit documentation and ensuring compliance of financial requirements.
- Responsible for controlling all general ledger activities and ensuring reconciliations are completed timely including Actuals, Capital, and GAAP ledgers. Identify resolutions to any issues or discrepancies.
- Must represent UNG during financial audits, including preparation of documents per auditor requests.
- Required to maintain any USG training and new GASB pronouncements and to train UNG Accounting staff.
- Responsible for reconciliation of Assets Management, including reconciliation of all assets and depreciation; must maintain accurate information and review of asset categories and coinciding depreciation and location.
- Must provide BOR policy guidance and training to financial managers across all campuses to ensure compliance.
- Responsible for taxation requirements, including UBIT and international withholdings.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of University System of Georgia policies and procedures is required.
- Higher Ed computer software (PeopleSoft, Banner).
- GASB accounting and reporting; advanced fund accounting, government projects accounting.
- Advanced Excel skills a must.
- Must be able to foster a team environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required.
- At least five years of accounting experience required.
- Experience in annual financial report preparation within higher education or another environment that follows GASB principles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Accounting or Finance degree preferred.
- A graduate degree, or CPA license is preferred; or being within a position to obtain either within a two-year period.
- Experience in preparing for state and internal audits preferred.
Proposed Salary
Minimum starting salary: $73,155
