The University of Olivet is located in south central Michigan in the town of Olivet, MI, which is a close knit, rural community offering quiet streets and natural surroundings, yet is not more than 30 minutes from the larger cities of Lansing and Battle Creek. Both are small enough to be friendly and large enough to boast many of the big city amenities.

Position Summary:
The Assistant Softball Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in building a successful program at The University of Olivet. This includes assisting with eligibility, recruitment, retention, budget, fundraising, game day management, scheduling, coaching (primarily outfield and hitting), and any other program needs directed by the Head Coach.

Qualifications:

Required:
  • Some earned undergraduate credits from a college or university, with continued progress towards a bachelor’s degree
  • Playing experience
  • CPR/AED First Aid Certification required (available on-site)
  • Successful completion of the NCAA Division III Rules Test, once hired
  • Ability to represent the Athletic Department in an appropriate and professional manner Ability to abide by the rules for the sport of the NCAA, MIAA, and The University
  • Ability to attend athletic staff meetings, mandatory student-athlete programs, admissions events, sports banquets, athletic fundraising activities, etc.

Preferred:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Coaching experience
  • Outfield and hitting knowledge
  • Experience in NCAA college or university level athletics, as a coach or student-athlete
  • Experience working directly with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Willingness to enhance professional growth by attending clinics and workshops as well as belonging to national and state coaching associations

Work Schedule:
This is a part time, 10-month position. It includes flexible work hours Monday through Friday, especially in-season. Weekends and travel are required.

Position Details:
  • Responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting the Head Coach with daily needs of the program (i.e., academic oversight/study tables, fundraising, recruiting, social media, camps/clinics, game day management, etc.)
  • Must know and maintain knowledge of NCAA and MIAA rules and regulations.
  • Carry out all rules and regulations of the softball program that are necessary to accomplish the objectives of the sport within the Athletic Department, The University, MIAA, and NCAA.
  • Be prepared to coordinate and conduct sections of practices, trainings, etc., both individually and collectively, ensuring all safety guidelines and standards are maintained.
  • Recruiting will be a large portion of responsibilities; applicants will need to be comfortable with multiple forms of communication with potential student-athletes, be willing to form contacts with local travel and high school coaches, search through and sort potential student-athletes on multiple recruiting sites and have a willingness to travel to recruit high-level student-athletes in order to better the program.

Salary : $36,200 - $45,800
