The Mendoza-Halliday Lab is currently seeking candidates for an Animal Technician position in the field of Cognitive Neurophysiology. We use high-count multi-area neuronal recordings & optogenetics to investigate how neurons generate, monitor, and transform mental representations in working memory. The Lab is affiliated with the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Pittsburgh. Duties include animal care, behavioral training and neuronal recordings in non-human primates (NHPs), and lab management duties. Candidates with an academic background in Neuroscience (or related field in Biological Sciences, Medicine, or Engineering) and/or experience working with large animals in research or veterinary settings are particularly encouraged to apply. Initial training and close supervision will be provided by the principal investigator. The position is ideal for candidates interested in technical research work in a Cognitive Neurophysiology lab or in gaining research experience as preparation for future PhD Program applications. Job Summary

Trains non-human primates and other large animals to facilitate research activities and assists with data collection. Assists in animal surgeries, clinical care, and routine veterinary procedures. Maintains laboratory spaces, completes all necessary documentation, and ensures compliance with all standards and regulations.

Essential Functions

Taking care of large non-human primates (NHPs), including daily transport of animals between home cages and experimental setup room.

Physical Effort

Transporting large NHPs (~9-15 kg) between home cage and experimental setup room using wheeled transport box: two to eight times a day.
