Purpose of Position

This position plays a pivotal role in collaborating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders primarily within the Office of the Controller. The role involves designing and executing projects that require comprehensive data gathering, and data analytics. Additionally, it involves crafting insightful data visualizations and reports to effectively communicate findings in order to drive informed decision-making and process improvements.

Essential Functions

  • Analyze diverse sets of data, utilizing skills to retrieve and interpret data effectively.
  • Create comprehensive reports, dashboards, and visualizations to communicate key findings and insights to stakeholders, including management and executive leadership.
  • Support all areas of the Controller’s Office, ensuring alignment with strategic pillars and organizational goals.
  • Assist in compiling and maintaining data, ensuring data integrity.
  • Interpret technical details and present them clearly and understandably to diverse audiences, including both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proficiency in Power BI and other data visualization tools or similar software. Skilled in creating interactive dashboards, reports, and visualizations to present complex data clearly for effective storytelling and decision-making.
  • Expertise in using Excel for data analysis.
  • Familiarity with programming languages commonly used in data analysis, such as SQL, Python, or R, with the ability to write scripts for data cleaning, transformation, and analysis.
  • Capability to translate business requirements into analytical solutions, identifying key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics relevant to business goals.
  • Effective communication of technical findings to non-technical stakeholders, including the ability to create clear and concise reports, presentations, and data narratives.
  • Ability to think analytically and strategically to solve complex business challenges.
  • Thoroughness in data validation and verification to ensure accuracy and reliability, with careful documentation of data sources, methodologies, and assumptions used in analysis.
  • Willingness to stay updated with advancements in analytics tools, techniques, and industry best practices, and eagerness to learn new technologies and methodologies to enhance analytical capabilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Two (2) years of relevant experience in business, data analytics, information systems or
    related field. Master’s degree may substitute for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree preferred.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to a minimum of 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

A background check will be conducted on candidates under final consideration. Background checks are conducted by third-party vendors. Upon request form the third-party vendor, candidates under final consideration must provide the required information for the background checks to be completed.
