JOB DESCRIPTION
The Retail Sales Associate delivers world-class customer service to all retail customers by receiving and processing packages for courier shipment, professionally packing customer shipments to The UPS Store packing guidelines, operating copiers, cutting equipment, fax machines, binding equipment, laminating machines, point-of-sale devices, and all other service-based tasks. The Associate expertly advises our valued customers by providing accurate information on our array of products, services, and best-value options and exhibits confidence by knowing best practices related to the industry.
The ideal candidate has previous retail sales experience, strong computer and internet skills, a high school diploma or GED, a friendly and genuinely helpful demeanor, and a professional appearance. He or she must be a fast learner who makes an effort to learn all aspects of the business in the shortest possible time. He or she will have assigned goals to meet.
This position will be full time or part-time, starting between 20-40 hours a week and includes Saturdays. The associate must be outgoing, friendly, professional, and able to comfortably network with our wide-array of small business customers.
The ideal candidate is self-motivated, hardworking, "go-getter", and ambitious.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Delivers outstanding customer service to walk-in customers and telephone inquiries
- Continuously practices good listening skills with customers, UPS Store team members, and leadership
- Takes ownership of the customer's shipping needs and offers viable solutions
- Takes action to learn all product and service offerings, alternative solutions, and industry trends
- Operates all equipment, software, and devices in an expert fashion and is willing to teach others
- Maintains a clean and safe working environment
- Empathizes and manages demanding, impatient, and/or frustrated customers to turn a stressful event into a positive experience
- Manages the logistics of small to medium projects, follows through to completion, and updates all parties as needed
- May open and/or close the store and perform end-of-day accounting, etc.
- Packages shipments for safe arrival, including assembling stock boxes, building custom boxes, and properly cushioning contents
- Takes ownership of customers’ packing, shipping, and/or print problems and offers viable solutions
- Develops as a team player and is critical to the production process
- Answers phones courteously and provides accurate, detailed information
- Communicates effectively and continuously practices good listening with customers, co-workers, vendors, and leadership
- Communicates effectively with customers
- Follows and understands quality guidelines
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Takes action to learn NEW products, services, alternative solutions, and industry trends as well as occasionally reviewing/retraining on lesser used services
- Helps customers with expert boxing and packaging, selling the appropriate products to ship materials safely and efficiently
- Provides prompt, efficient shipping expertise
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED required
- Retail/customer service experience
- Computer skills a must
- Good communication and people skills
- Able to cross sell and up sell products and services
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Adobe Suites (preferred)
- Outstanding phone skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including spelling and math
- Prompt, reliable, and responsible
- Able to lift 40 pounds
