Certified Veterinarian Technician Job Description:

Responsibilities:

Patient Care:

Assist veterinarians during physical examinations, surgeries, and medical procedures.

Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed by veterinarians.

Monitor and record vital signs, anesthesia, and patient recovery.

Perform basic wound care, bandaging, and post-operative care.

Handle and restrain animals for procedures and examinations.

Diagnostic Procedures:

Collect and prepare laboratory samples (blood, urine, etc.) for analysis.

Operate diagnostic equipment, such as radiography and ultrasound machines.

Assist with X-rays and other imaging procedures.

Treatment and Procedures:

Set up and maintain medical equipment for various procedures.

Assist with surgical preparation, sterilization, and maintenance of surgical instruments.

Administer intravenous fluids and monitor fluid therapy.

Client Communication:

Educate clients about animal care, medications, and post-treatment instructions.

Communicate patient updates and treatment plans to pet owners.

Medical Records and Documentation:

Maintain accurate and detailed medical records for each patient.

Document treatments, medications, and patient progress.

Animal Nursing and Welfare:

Provide compassionate care and attention to hospitalized and recovering animals.

Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients and staff.

Pharmacy and Inventory Management:

Dispense medications and ensure accurate dosing.

Manage inventory of medical supplies and pharmaceuticals.

Professional Development:

Stay updated on current veterinary techniques, medications, and industry trends.

Attend continuing education courses to maintain licensure and certification.

Qualifications:

Completion of a Veterinary Technician program accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).

Successful completion of the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE) for certification/licensure.

Strong understanding of animal behavior, anatomy, and physiology.

Excellent communication skills for interactions with both veterinary professionals and clients.

Compassion and patience when handling animals and working with pet owners.

Proficiency in using Avimark veterinary software and medical equipment.

Working Conditions:

May require work on evenings, weekends, and holidays, as veterinary care is often needed around the clock.
