Head Lifeguard
JOB OVERVIEW:
As the head lifeguard, you will be responsible for overseeing the lifeguard team and ensuring the safety of all patrons within the aquatic facility. You will enforce safety rules, respond to emergencies, and provide leadership and guidance to other lifeguards. Duties may include daily chemical analysis/testing, pool cleaning, cleaning of bathrooms & concession stand area, as well as teaching swim lessons and/or water aerobics.
Essential Job Functions:
- Supervise lifeguards and Pool Attendants while ensuring certifications remain current and routinely test skills (CPR, First Aid, rescues, AED, etc)
- Ensure student safety
- Evaluate progress within each level and determine if student is ready to move to the next level
- Maintain records throughout each session of swim lessons and other aquatic programs
- Make sure pool water has required supply of chemical levels for use, maintain daily accurate records of inventory, levels and understand all MSDS on all chemicals and testing reagents
- Ensure pool and beach area is safe and ready for guest use
- Monitor weather and conditions and react appropriately to include evacuation of pool, participants seeking covered shelter and verifying conditions are safe prior to allowing swimmers to return to pool
- Open and close pools and/or beaches
- Ensure pool and area is maintained and cleaned
- Organize and help WSIs evaluate student progress daily
- Assist Community Lifestyle Coordinator organize and facilitate pool activities and events for Water Valley community
- Assist CPO & Pool Operations Manager with scheduling and other administrative duties
- Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
- American Red Cross, YMCA, National Aquatic Safety Co, Starguard, Ellis & Associates, Lifeguard, First Aid, CPR/AED Professional Rescuer certifications required
- Minimum of one year experience managing in public, community, commercial, or private pools
- Ability to remain calm and focused in high-pressure situations
- Strong swimming ability and proficiency in water rescue techniques.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
- Able to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays (flexible schedule)
- Able to work in a standing position for long periods
- Excellent communication and guest service skills
- Water Front safety certification preferred
