Job Title: Junior Software Engineer
Location: Sweden, Hybrid
Purpose of Role:
As a Junior Software Engineer in the Intelligent Process Optimization team at Weir, you will enter the world of mining, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), machine learning, cloud, and software engineering. Your contributions will have global impact.
In this role, you will be working in a cross-functional agile team, to build and maintain software for a process optimization product written in Python and Go. You will work closely with a senior software engineer and gradually get responsibility and ownership as you gain experience, skill, and confidence in our mission, technology stack, and system design.

Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and deploy APIs written in Python and Go in accordance with best practices.
- Learn and apply application security best practices.
- Collaborate with Data Scientists to integrate new features into the product.
- Collaborate with API consumers, such as frontend developers, to enable use, capture feedback, and manage changes to the system.
- Apply software design patterns and code quality best practices.
- Effectively communicate intent, progress, and results to the team.
- Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world class safety culture.
Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent work experience.
- Demonstrable experience developing software using Git and DBMS.
- Demonstrable understanding of high-level machine learning terminology and concepts.
- Familiarity with Linux-based systems and tools.
- Experience with IoT and the mining industry is considered a plus.
- Experience working with data scientists and machine learning is considered a plus.
- Experience working in an agile team using a tool like JIRA is considered a plus.
- Experience with Azure and containerization (e.g. Docker) is considered a plus.
