As the Assistant Chief Engineer of The Westgate Hotel, you would be responsible for assisting the Chief Engineer in overseeing the function and safety of the facility to protect the well-being of all guests and team members in the hotel’s effort to deliver outstanding guest service and financial profitability. This individual will be responsible for conducting and coordinating programs involving electrical, mechanical, and ensuring compliance with federal and local safety and mechanical regulations. The successful individual will help drive an amazing guest experience by providing seamless mechanical operations. This position must have experience in repair and maintenance of all physical facilities (both interior and exterior) throughout the hotel property including, but not limited to electrical, installation, plumbing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), carpentry, painting, drywall repairs, lock repairs and life safety. This position will also provide technical support related to HVAC, water operations, and general maintenance of 222 hotel rooms and fitness center. Moreover, they must be skilled in cleaning, adjusting, and repairing systems and will be responsible for air quality systems from installation to end-of-life and emergency repairs.

  • Assist the Chief Engineer in directing and overseeing the function and safety of the facilities, including but not limited to, physical buildings, mechanical equipment, electrical heating and cooling system, life safety system and grounds according to federal, state, and local regulation.
  • Conduct facility inspections, preventive maintenance checks, and direct general construction.
  • Assign, track, and follow up on status of work orders assigned to staff and contractors as needed.
  • Handles basic repairs and maintenance including plumbing, carpentry, installation, electrical, mechanical, general labor, and architectural systems through the facility to ensure operations efficiency and safety.
  • Installs, maintains, repairs ventilation and air conditioning systems and equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical issues and correct them in addition to reviewing schematics.
  • Repair machines, equipment, or structures as necessary.
  • Routinely inspecting various elements of buildings and grounds, like elevators, fire alarms, security cameras and sprinkler systems.
  • Support the Chief Engineer to assign, verify and document completion of all routine maintenance and repairs in the property maintenance management system.
  • Must have the ability to review employee work product and ensure finished product aligns with hotel standards of luxury and elegance.
  • Communicate with the city/county/state officials to ensure the proper maintenance of permits and license, to coordinate required inspections and ensure all compliance with codes, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Immediately follow up on any alarms to determine the exact location and cause; determine emergency status and report to Chief Engineer and/or the General Manager with findings.
  • Assist the Chief Engineer with execution of capital projects and property rehabilitation.

    Supervisory Duties:

    • Monitoring and developing team member performance to include, but not limited to, providing supervision, scheduling, conducting counseling and evaluations, providing professional development, and delivering recognition and reward.
    • Recruiting, interviewing, and training team members. Provides technical direction and on-the-job training for staff as needed.
    • Organizes and oversees the schedules and work of maintenance staff.
    • Recognizes and celebrates success with team members and provides feedback and corrective action as needed and in accordance with company policy.
    • Acts in absence of the Chief Engineer. Leads special projects as needed.
    • Assists with the supervision of a team of ≤10 people.
    • Training and coaching team members on both laundry and kitchen preventive maintenance, parts inventory, and all requirements for repairs laundry and kitchen equipment

    Safety Responsibilities: 

    • Protect, promote, and train safety of self, co-workers, and Westgate Hotel guests always.
    • Promptly report any potentially harmful equipment or situations to the immediate manager
    • Report safety-related accidents and incidents at once to immediate manager and appropriate department(s), following documented procedures.
    • Follow all company and department safety policies and procedures as outlined in the Hotel’s Occupational Safety & Health Compliance Manual and department-specific procedures or manuals.
    • Operate equipment in a safe manner that will not lead to injury to yourself or others.
    • Drive in accordance with the law and Westgate Hotel policies.

    Qualifications:

    • Must be able to work varied shifts - after hours, over weekends and on public holidays with short or minimal notice.
    • Must have organizational and troubleshooting skills.
    • Knowledge of commercial HVAC, boiler, chillers, plumbing, electrical, laundry and refrigeration.
    • Be able to use hand and power tools and other machinery required.
    • Repair and replace plumbing piping and perform basic plumbing repairs.
    • Perform guest room preventative maintenance.
    • Ability to handle guest room calls and issues requested by guest, Guest Services, Housekeeping
    • Ability to communicate effectively with our guest training and exemplify guest service standards.
    • Successfully complete all mandated compliance training and reviews a; departmental safety information: MSD Sheets and knows location of all emergency response equipment. Practice emergency procedures in compliance with hotel/ company standards, react and assist in any hotel emergency.
    • This position requires organization, attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task. Must have Professional and positive demeanor always with a desire to exceed expectations.

      EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

      High school diploma or equivalent required. At least five years of maintenance experience required. 1 to 2 years’ experience as an HVAC technician, and willingness to continue education in HVAC field. Professional Certifications (e.g., CMRP or HVAC certified) preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license.

      Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills. Experience with foreman skills, managing projects and crew preferred.

      EQUIPMENT/PROGRAMS USED

      Requires knowledge of and ability to operate computer equipment and software – strong Microsoft office skills. Computer, portable radio, telephone, mobile phone, copy machine, fax, and other basic office equipment. Ability to drive forklift. Knowledge of Birch Street/Coupa, UKG, Kronos Payroll Administrator, and additional hotel software experience preferred.
