The Women’s Center is a nonprofit organization that provides services to women, men, families, young adults, and children. TWC now serves over 5,000 people annually at their two locations in Virginia and Washington, DC and in partner locations. Our mission is to significantly improve the mental health and well-being of all members of the community through counseling, education, support, and advocacy.
Position Summary:
The Director Major Gifts will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and will be responsible for ensuring growth and sustainability of the Center’s fundraising activities by creating and implementing a major donor strategy including identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors.
Essential Duties/responsibilities:
- Lead the creation, development and implementation of a major donor strategy.
- Cultivate strong and collaborative relationships with the staff to thoroughly understand and articulate the Center’s mission, vision, and funding priorities to donors and prospects.
- Foster an understanding and execution of philanthropy in keeping with the Center’s values, vision, and mission.
- Coordinate the design, printing and distribution of philanthropic materials such as proposals, reports, impact updates and other donor materials, as needed.
- Manage a portfolio of major donors and prospects, including qualifying high-capacity donors, forging strong relationships and developing tailored engagement strategies for upgrading key donors and prospects.
- Support the development, growth and stewardship of the Center’s planned giving pipeline by educating donors about legacy opportunities and soliciting planned gifts when appropriate.
- Identify, engage and cultivate corporate, community and individual major giving prospects for the organization's fundraising priorities.
- Leverage board and senior leadership to maximize development opportunities and provide high-level support to CEO by offering sound strategy, staffing calls and meetings with major donors/prospects and performing follow up.
- Expand and diversify the Center’s donor base/pipeline annually by 40%
- Develop and implement the overall strategy for the Center’s major gifts program, including management of major donor stewardship/engagement activities to maximize retention and increase gift size.
- Oversee the administration and maintenance of donor database files, including those used to track donor and gift information. Respects the privacy and confidentiality of donor information.
- Conduct proactive research and develop list of major donor prospects.
Qualification Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field required, master’s degree preferred, CFRE certification preferred.
- At least eight (8) years of successful experience in a non-profit fundraising leadership position with a focus on individual giving and corporate foundations.
- Proven track record of success in major gift solicitation.
- Strategic, innovative thinker who has demonstrated success in identification of prospects, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gifts.
- Ease and expertise in working with major donors with proven ability to maintain and nurture donor relationships.
- Strong project management skills and ability to multitask, set priorities and follow through.
- Experience with Capital Campaigns, preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and superior fundraising database management skills, i.e.,Bloomerang familiarity a plus.
