Job Openings at St. Michael’s Country Day School Summer Theatre Camp

The summer theatre camp at St. Michael’s School in Newport, Theatre at St. Michael’s (TASM), run by Christina Johnston is looking to hire counselors for this summer’s program.

Mission
Welcome to Theatre at St. Michael’s! Theatre at St. Michael’s continues in its tradition of offering excellent programs for student actors, directors, writers, and designers. Our program is founded on the belief that young performers can work together in a spirit of collaboration to create wonderful performances and have a great time while doing it. Through the exploration of acting, song, dance, video, text, and design, children are encouraged to express themselves and discover their full potential. We use each individual’s talents to create, rehearse, and produce a unique theatrical event. These events include an original musical, and Shakespearean plays. Students are involved in all aspects of the production, both onstage and off, developing existing theatre skills (although no previous theatre experience is necessary), and learning new ones. Theatre at St. Michael’s also celebrates diversity, community, and encourages respect, awareness, and acceptance of one’s uniqueness and the appreciation of others.

Theatre at St. Michael’s is located on the campus of St. Michael’s Country Day School, in historic Newport, Rhode Island. Campers will enjoy our beautiful seven-acre seaside campus overlooking one of Newport’s famous beaches, and will have full use of the school’s facilities. These include a stage with lighting and sound system, rehearsal rooms and classrooms in an adjacent building, an air-conditioned computer lab, as well as our playing fields and playgrounds. And don’t forget – our outdoor in-ground pool!

We need to hire qualified people for the following teaching positions for the summer of 2024:

• TASM Camp Counselor – Counselors are involved with all aspects of the camp and productions, from helping with rehearsals or set construction to managing camp activities, and supervising campers during lunch and recess. Counselors lead theatre games, help campers develop characters and rehearse scenes or build the set and work the tech table. At TASM, a sense of community and collective responsibility is all-important to what we do, so counselors are intrinsically involved in leading campers through every part of their rehearsal and performance process. Counselors are responsible for helping campers achieve their theatrical goals while having a blast in the process! Camp hours are 9:00 – 4:00, Monday – Friday, June 24th – July 29th, wiht evening shows on July 12th & 13th, and 26th and 27th.
