We are looking for a Medical Biller/Coder to perform billing functions for PiHP organizations, specifically: Oakland Community Healthcare Network (OCHN), and Community Mental Health Partnership of Southeastern Michigan (CMHPSM). Candidates must be comfortable with early start times of 6:00 AM. The ideal candidate will be familiar with the billing functions associated with Prepaid Inpatient Health Plans (PIHPs), which are organizations that are responsible for managing Medicaid services related to substance abuse and behavioral health. The candidate will support the billing function at all Therapeutics clinics (Monroe, Ann Arbor, Pontiac, and Walled Lake) on occasion.
Qualified candidates must possess at least two years of working knowledge/experience in the following areas:
- Facility billing/coding experience, ideally experience in for Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) counseling and other services.
- Experience in authorizations, posting payment, A/R, appeals, remediating rejections and acquiring credentialing for Medicare/Medicaid/BCBS/Commercial Insurances.
- Experience in billing clients that are within the mental health and substance abuse areas for Oakland, Washtenaw, and Livingston Counties private health systems.
- Ability to successfully navigate Billing and EMR systems.
- Experience with excel, insurance websites and billing systems, medical terminology/ICD10 and third-party payor regulations.
- Must possess excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and organizational skills with the ability to work independently and as a team player.
This position has six primary functions:
- Working with Counselors and Medical staff to ensure services are billed in a timely fashion.
- Interacting with PiHP staff to resolve client authorization issues.
- Training counseling staff to enter authorization information and billing data into the appropriate EHR.
- Interacting with clients to resolve insurance coverage issues.
- Working with counseling staff to ensure clinical information required to bill is entered into the billing system.
- Understanding and implementing payer contract details related to authorization and billing functions.
Detailed frequent duties include:
- Authorizing clients for services.
- Entering billing individual counseling, group counseling, drug screens, and medical appointments.
- Performing quality checks to ensure services are billed with accuracy and integrity.
- Interacting with PiHP personnel related to client authorization and payment issues.
- Answering questions related to the correct process for billing and authorizing client services.
- Resolving client billing issues.
- Establishing and maintaining organizational provider in-network credentials with insurance provider
- Providing reports on Accounts Receivables from the billing process.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Associate degree {Preferred}
- Medicare Billing experience {Required}
- Strong understanding of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) {Required}
- Understanding of outpatient medical clinic operations {Preferred}
- Familiarity with CPT and Revenue Codes, especially as used in the substance abuse or mental health area. {Preferred}
- Experience in the medical/psychosocial billing area. {Preferred}
- Reliability - ability to adhere to an early schedule on a consistent basis. {Required}
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
