Position Summary
The Utility Relief is responsible for the following: setting up lapper with proper dies, gears, tension rings, yarn, and yarn tension, assisting in starting hose through extrusion line, adjusting equipment, and other duties as directed. Truck yarn to lapper and remove waste to appropriate location. Weigh yarn as prescribed. Maintain lapper is set up and ready to run. Start and maintain any longitudinal yarns required. Keep safety equipment in place.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
· Quality checks and documentation necessary for ISO compliance and customer requirements.
· Technology and automation implemented across the plant will replace current paper-based and manual operations and processes.
· Ensure all HBD Safety Policies and Procedures are followed when performing job duties.
· Perform duties under the supervision of the Setup Supervisor and/or Foreman, to produce hose products to quality and quantity standards as established.
· Assist Extrusion Operator in all aspects of line operation.
· In accordance with the product specification: assemble and install parts to set up extruders, branders and lappers if needed; operate switches, valves, and levers to control power, water, air, vacuum, heat and coolants.
· Start compound in extruders and set tube, layer, and cover gauge and size; set up continuous flow by stringing or threading hose components from extruders through lappers, and through C-V tank.
· Constantly inspect operation of entire line, make continuous visual and gauge checks, take corrective action and make adjustments to maintain quality and quantity to specification, as necessary.
· Record usage of material as needed.
· Assist with loading lapper desks.
· Write Maintenance Department Work Orders for repair of equipment or tools as necessary.
· Be skilled in all line operations to relieve other employees when necessary.
· Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition during and at the end of each shift.
· Communicate compound change data to Extrusion Operator at time of compound change when required.
· Maintain constant visual checks on equipment and hose to assist in maintenance of quality and quantity standards. Assist Operators as necessary. Take corrective action to remedy defects.
· Assistin line shutdowns and changeovers to include minor equipment operation.
· Will be given instruction in forklift operation and must pass test to be authorized.
· Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition during and at the end of each shift.
· Perform other duties in the job classification as directed by supervision.
Experience and Education Required
· High School Diploma Preferred
Two or three years’ experience in a manufacturing environment
