The Role
Reporting to the Corporate Controller, this position will work closely with the Corporate Controller to manage, develop, and scale accounting functions at THRD. This position will be responsible for overseeing certain areas of operational accounting, including equity and payroll, and providing strategic insights to aid in various business decision-making processes. In this position, you will not only need to roll up your sleeves and get into the details, but also be a strategic thinker with an ability to see the bigger picture and influence change.
Responsibilities
- Identify opportunities for process optimization and automation by streamlining workflows, implementing best practices, and leveraging technology to improve efficiency and accuracy
- Support the monthly and quarterly close process, including preparation of journal entries and reconciliations of more complex or technically challenging balance sheet accounts.
- Review staff and senior work papers and provide constructive feedback as appropriate.
- Mentor and develop a results-oriented accounting team.
- Oversee administration of the company’s equity plans for all employees; manage equity award releases, stock options exercises and equity compensation reporting
- Assist legal team with review of newly proposed 10b5-1 trading plans and process trades manually under existing plans
- Responsible for the accuracy of Black-Scholes valuation and corresponding journal entries for stock-based compensation expense
- Assist with the preparation of stock-related sections of 10-Qs, 10-Ks and Proxy Statements Support internal and external audit processes.
- Partner cross-functionally with business process owners in a collaborative manner during the design, modification, or streamlining of processes and controls for a more efficient/effective control environment.
- Implement best practices with effective SOX controls and assist with the automation of routine work streams and manual processes to enable efficient, accurate, and timely processing of accounting records.
- Execute all responsibilities in compliance with our SOX 404 internal control framework with consistent quality.
- Support tax filings, governmental reporting, insurance renewal review/preparation, and other statutory reporting as needed.
- Perform other duties and ad hoc requests as requested.
- We value in person collaboration and are looking for someone with a desire and ability to be in the San Francisco office on a routine basis.
Minimum Qualifications
- 8 years of progressive accounting experience in a growing company, including 5 years’ experience mentoring and developing direct report(s)
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and SOX requirements and controls
- Excellent attention to detail and dedication to accurate and high-quality work
- Strong project management experience in organizing, planning, and executing the program from vision through implementation
- Ability to problem solve and multi-task in a fast-paced, start-up environment.
- A positive attitude and effective written/oral communication skills
- A continuous improvement mindset with a strong sense of ownership, accountability, teamwork, and collaboration.
- <5% travel required for this role
Desired Qualifications
- Public company biotech experience .
- Certified Public Accountant with Big 4 public accounting firm experience preferred.
- Equity (Shareworks) and payroll (ADP WFN) administration experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with NetSuite, Bill.com, Conga, and ActiveDisclosure or Workiva is a plus.
The approximate salary range for this role is: $170,000 - $190,000
