- JOB SUMMARY
- The Supportive Counselor I will be under the direction/supervision of the Behavioral Health Nurse Manager and supported by the Behavioral Health Clinical Coordinator of Social Services and Therapies and is responsible for performing basic activities of a Supportive Counselor to ensure the delivery of safe, effective, efficient, quality recovery support, patient care, and recovery tools to the substance abuse patients being treated in the BHS department. The Supportive Counselor also performs basic clerical responsibilities and assists with non-patient care activities to ensure the efficient operation of the unit(s). He/she must have the knowledge of BHS safety policies, and have the skills to respectfully enforce such policies..
- EDUCATION
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- LICENSURE
- Prefer current Peer Recovery Support Specialist or Recovery Coach certification, but not required
- Must be eligible for Chauffeur's license. Chauffeur's license must be obtained within 30 days of employment and maintained thereafter. Good driving record is required.
- EXPERIENCE
- Must have two or more years verifiable experience in behavioral health or substance abuse treatment. Bachelor's degree in a human services field can be substituted for experience.
- CERTIFICATION
- BCLS validation within 60 days of employment and revalidated according to AHA guidelines.
- CPI validation required within 90 days of employment with revalidation per hospital policy.
- COMPUTER/TYPING/MATH SKILLS
- Must have basic knowledge of computer skills so that the employee can effectively receive training of the hospital computer system.
- Must be able to research community resources for clients when needed.
- JOB SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to successfully complete established competencies for the position within designated probationary period; extended probationary period may be acceptable upon case by case basis with action plan developed with the clinical coordinator.
- Healthcare BCLS validation required within 60 days of employment with revalidation per AHA guidelines thereafter.
- CPI validation required within 90 days of employment with recertification per hospital policy.
- Must be able to maintain a valid driver's license and good driving record.
