What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant Float (per-diem) - Pediatrics (ECHA) - Northeast position at Thomas Jefferson University & Jefferson Health?
The Medical Assistantassists physicians as they assess, examine and treat patients. They require an advanced skillset and also assist in procedures. Additional responsibilities include patient flow management and various diagnostic procedures such as EKGs, phlebotomy, injections and vitals. Acts as liaison to physicians to ensure patient satisfaction. Maintains and orders supplies for their area as needed.
- Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
- Escorts patients to exam rooms and ensures proper identification.
- Performs and documents vital signs, clinical care quality measures and medical history information.
- Remains proficient and knowledgeable regarding the use and documentation requirements within information technology systems within established scope of practice.
- Assists physicians with examinations, various diagnostic procedures, and may perform EKG and venipuncture/injections in the office, using appropriate skills to provide quality care to the patients.
- Adheres to HIPAA privacy and security requirements.
- Orders clinical supplies to maintain inventory and to facilitate smooth operations of the office.
Educations:
- HS diploma or equivalent required.
- Graduate of an accredited program for Medical Assistants (or 5 years of continuous Medical Assistant work may be considered as equivalent to an accredited Medical Assistant program) is required.
Experience:
- At least one year of continuous experience working as a Medical Assistant in a similar setting is preferred.
Certifications:
- Current certification from the Medical Association of Medical Assistants preferred.
- Phlebotomy Certification is preferred
- Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association is required, or renewal must be obtained within 60 days of employment.
Other:
- Medical Assistants#39; schedules may include occasional evenings and/or weekends and may require assignment to other office locations to ensure safe staffing levels and optimal business operation.
Since this position will require the selected candidate to engage in regular contact with children in the form of care, guidance, supervision or training, you will be required to meet the requirements of the Child Protective Services Act, including the Pennsylvania State Police criminal background check, the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare child abuse criminal background clearance, and an FBI finger print based federal criminal records check. The selected candidate will not be allowed to commence working until all three (3) are completed satisfactorily.
