The Thomas M. Wernert Center (TMWC) is looking for a highly organized and motivated communications specialist to create and execute a communication strategy that builds awareness and increases engagement among members, donors, and the mental health community in Lucas County. Candidates must be able to develop written communication materials, lead community outreach efforts, and create and maintain positive media relations. Lived experience with mental health is a plus. The communications specialist position is
40 hours per week with medical, dental, life, short term disability, employee assistance program, retirement (403B), and paid time off.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
· Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills.
· Write and/or edit compelling and creative content for website, blogs, social media, newsletters, presentations, and other communications.
· Must be organized and detail oriented, able to interact with members, donors, and co-workers.
· Manage multiple priorities, problem solve, meet deadlines, and follow-through on work assignments.
· Experience creating and implementing marketing materials across a variety of channels, including social media, email, print, and electronic media. Photography skills a plus.
· Experience with Canva, InDesign, Constant Contact, PowerPoint, and other design tools a plus.
· Internal and external event planning and coordination.
· Develop and participate in community outreach activities at public, social, and business events to increase awareness and disseminate information about TMWC.
· Support fundraising, development, and grant writing as necessary.
Qualifications & Education
· Bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing, or communications.
· Highly collaborative team player willing to jump in to support others on the team.
· Minimum of two years’ experience with content writing including social media, marketing copy, newsletters, and press releases.
· Exceptional writing skills and a firm grasp of the English language, grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Strong knowledge of AP Style guidelines.
· Creative and strategic problem solver.
· Strong project management skills.
