Position: Unit Operator
Reports to: Field Supervisor
Position Requirements:
Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of hire
Must possess a high school Diploma or GED (degree preferred)
Possess (or ability to pass) a DOT Physical
Must possess:
a valid and current BLS for Healthcare Providers credential (preferred or obtained during orientation)
Defensive Driving Credential (preferred or obtained during orientation)
Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Desire to enroll in an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program.
Job Responsibilities:
Safely operates company vehicles in accordance with organizational policy, DHEC and ORS regulations.
Response to and completion of transport requests for service on a Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulance.
Provides excellent customer service, including the safe lifting/moving of customers and patients.
Completion of daily unit check sheets, ensuring all equipment is on-board and in proper working condition.
Maintenance of station(s) and unit(s) in accordance with organizational policy
Other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift, push, pull, and move up to 150lbs independently, and 300lbs with a partner.
Able and willing to be seated, standing, walking, etc. for lengthy periods of time.
Ability to work in extreme temperatures and weather conditions.
Ability to successfully mitigate stressful situations with co-worker, healthcare providers, customers, and the general public
Flexibility to respond to emergency and non-emergency requests for service at any given time while assigned to a shift, including up until, and beyond, scheduled “off” times.
Summary:
The Unit Operator assists the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in the safe and efficient operation of their assigned ambulance, for the duration of their shift. This includes communication with customers and patients, the public, dispatch, healthcare personnel, etc. In addition, the Unit Operator will be required to respond to various requests for service as requested by the communications center. All responses and customer contacts will require the efficient and timely completion of reports (completed by the EMT). Other duties may be assigned as availability and organizational needs allow. Above all else, the Unit Operator will serve with compassion and professionalism. This is an entry-level position with no prior experience required. All training can and will be provided on-the-job. Selected applicants will be eligible to attend a Thorne sponsored Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course, expected within six months of hire.
