POSITION TITLE: Associate General Counsel
REPORTS TO: General Counsel
WORK LOCATION: Phoenix, Arizona
About the Role
We are looking for a highly motivated, entrepreneurial, and experienced lawyer to join our legal team as Associate General Counsel. This lawyer will focus her or his practice on our dynamic group of affiliated companies, helping to bring financial services to market and creating innovative financial technology solutions for our customers. Accordingly, this role requires the ability to navigate complex organizations, understand thorny regulatory issues, and manage competing goals under routinely tight deadlines.
What You'll Do
Associate General Counsel is a full-time attorney position in the Legal Department of our corporate office. It requires a proven track record of working collaboratively and independently with minimal supervision while managing projects from inception to closing. The position reports to the General Counsel.
Core Responsibilities
❏ Consult with and provide continuing counsel to the organization’s management team.
❏ Assist in the development and implementation of corporate policies and procedures in the areas of compliance, risk management, business development, company operations, and human resources.
❏ Manage litigation and bankruptcy matters; develop litigation strategies; draft pleadings, motions, and other legal documents; attend hearings in state and federal courts; and negotiate settlements.
❏ Draft consumer loan and related compliance documents to support the organization’s lending operations in multiple jurisdictions.
❏ Conduct research and assist in developing new consumer financial products and services.
❏ Negotiate and draft purchase agreements, leases, vendor contracts, and corporate formation and organizational documents.
❏ Complete other tasks as assigned.
What We Look For
❏ Must be Licensed in the state of Arizona
❏ Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
❏ 1-3 years of experience in legal or regulatory compliance for a financial services company, FinTech company, or government agency.
❏ Demonstrated knowledge / familiarity with federal financial statutes and regulations (e.g., TILA and Reg. Z, ECOA and Reg. B, EFTA and Reg. E, FCRA and Reg. V, FDCPA, CFPA (UDAAP), TCPA, GLBA, SCRA, MLA, AML/BSA, etc.).
❏ Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and organizational skills with proven ability to evaluate internal controls.
❏ Applicant must be able to work on-site in our Phoenix, AZ office full-time.
❏ Demonstrate "self-starter" behavior and have a willingness to help others with a positive attitude.
❏ Should possess consumer lending industry knowledge, ideally with marketplace lending and/or call center/service center operations experience.
❏ Prior experience at scaling a startup is a plus!

Pay: $100,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
