What are the responsibilities and job description for the Grants Manager position at Thurston County Food Bank?
SUMMARY JOB DESCRIPTION:
This position reports directly to the Senior Director of Operations under the guidance of the CEO and works closely with the management team to manage the grant-related activities and the organization’s database management. The responsibilities include overseeing the organization’s grant-seeking and grant program activities, including public and private proposal generation, prospect research, relationship management, reporting, and managing the organization’s grant management database.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee the organization’s grant-seeking activities including research, attending bidders conferences to help determine the direction of potential grant opportunities, leading the grant proposal process, writing, and submitting the grant proposal in a timely manner, and communicating with the funder and internal management team.
- Develop and implement strategies to strengthen relationships with funders, including site visits, meetings, and other engagement opportunities.
- Stay informed about emerging community impact, best practices, and funding opportunities in the grant-making landscape.
- Monitor grant compliance and ensure that all funding requirements are met, including financial and programmatic reporting, as well as any necessary acknowledgments and recognition.
- Maintain a comprehensive grants calendar to track deadlines, reporting requirements, and other important grant-related information.
- Develop and implement effective systems and processes to streamline grant management activities.
- Manage and track grant applications, awards, and reporting.
- Conduct thorough research to identify potential funding sources, including foundations, corporations, government agencies, and other grant-making entities.
- Establish and cultivate relationships with current and prospective funders, maintaining regular communication to keep them informed about the organization’s activities and impact.
- Manage the organization’s data and maintain the organization’s grant management tracking system and make necessary recommendations and analyses.
- Serve as an active Food Bank staff member, including participation in meetings, training, fundraising efforts, and other planned activities.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.

- Ability to understand and apply the philosophy and mission of the Thurston County Food Bank.
- Ability to maintain flexible work hours to accommodate meeting schedules, staff training, and other agency-related activities.
- Knowledge of our client base.
- Knowledge of data management, experience in managing the grant management tracking system, and analyses of the data.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in social services, or related job experience/training education.
- 2-4 years of grant writing and/or data management experience required.
- Proven track record of successful grant writing.
- 2-4 years of experience with contract management.
- Computer literacy including using MS Office and grant and database management software.
- Washington State Driver’s License and reliable transportation to be used on the job.
- Food Handler’s permit or ability to obtain one within 30 days.
- Possess or obtain a First Aid card in one of the following programs: American Red
Cross, Labor & Industries, or another County-approved program.
Salary & Benefits: $32.62 – $34.62/hour starting wage (d.o.e.), $32.62 – $39.74 full salary range (svc yr based), 40 hours/week. Employee benefits include employer-paid medical coverage, vision, and dental for employees beginning the first of the month following 30 days of employment. Employee paid coverage for spouses, partners, and dependents is also available. Paid time off, matching retirement contributions.
