The Tinley Park Public Library is seeking an energetic, positive, and service-oriented Outreach Assistant to provide library services on the Bookmobile and at offsite locations. The Tinley Park Public Library is an equal opportunity employer that serves both the communities of Tinley Park and Orland Hills with a combined population of 62,864.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will be flexible, dependable, and able to work with people of all ages, especially children and older adults, in a friendly, approachable, and tactful manner.

This person will:

  • Drive the Bookmobile and library van to community and school events, neighborhood stops, and senior facilities
  • Inform patrons of library services and resources
  • Check in and check out library materials
  • Register users and issue library cards
  • Select materials and manage holds for homebound patrons
  • Weed, rotate, and keep the Bookmobile shelves stocked with a high interest collection

Job Hours:

Part-time benefit position (16 hours per week) with working hours as follows:

  • Mondays 9 am–1 pm
  • Tuesdays 9 am–1 pm
  • Thursdays 9:45 am–6:15 pm

Schedule may vary to cover special outreach events.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Two years’ experience working with the public, preferably in a public library
  • Knowledge of and/or willingness to learn and keep up with children’s, young adult, and adult literature
  • Knowledge of and ability to use PCs and a variety of hardware/software programs
  • Valid driver’s license and excellent driving record
  • Ability to safely operate the Bookmobile and pass a driving test
  • Ability to lift boxes, baskets, and totes of books or other library materials weighing up to 40 lbs.

$19.11 per hour
