Tioga Medical Center is seeking a Director of Health Information Management to join our team!

Position Type: Full-Time

Responsibilities:
Responsible for the successful maintenance of patient records and administrative operation of the Health Information Management Department. Oversight responsibility for operational aspects of department. Serves as resource for faculty regarding medical record content and regulatory requirements. Assures availability of the medical records at all times. Ensures that medical records are complete, accurate, and conform to accepted standards. Contacts provider for delinquent reports, if necessary. Provides diagnosis codes to the billing department on a timely basis to expedite filing of insurance claims for patient services rendered as required by hospital and external agencies. Assumes responsibility for a comprehensive departmental orientation program that is documented for each new employee. Establishes and monitors standards of performance among all subordinates and ensures that standards are being consistently met. Conducts monthly staff meetings to maintain communication and records meeting minutes. Develops departmental policies and procedures. Supervises and monitors the release of confidential information to authorized persons in accordance with rules and regulations. Compiles statistical information and registers pertaining to the medical records department, ancillary services, and other hospital statistical information as assigned or requested. Performs quarterly audit of 340b program. Supervises and coordinates the preparation of statistical information for medical staff, medical staff committees, accreditation agencies, state agencies, and the administration. Attends meetings and participates in continuing education. Performs all duties or tasks requested by the CEO.

Education, License and Certifications:
High School diploma
Coding experience required
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification preferred; Must meet required continuing education hours to maintain RHIT certification

Personal Skills/Traits Desired/Physical Requirements:
Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language. Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of teamwork. Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, patients, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public. Must have considerable initiative and judgment in assigning tasks, delegating responsibility, resolving operational problems, and handling grievances of employees and other personnel. Must have thorough knowledge of accepted medical records practices, including medical records ethics, classification, and nomenclature. Thorough knowledge of federal and state regulations, laws, and utilization review committee planning, organization, and management. Knowledge of medical staff bylaws, rules, and regulations, and the state peer review statute. Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time at a desk while working on a computer. Travel may be required to attend work-related meetings and educational opportunities.
