Job Description
Title: Release Train Engineer
Location: Remote
Release Train Engineer to join the Strategy and Digital Transformation group to lead and manage scaled Agile teams and over a period of time be a keeper for Agile practices and processes for large agile teams.
This role will be responsible for coaching one or more Agile Release Trains at the Portfolio/Program levels. This role will also be responsible for managing junior coaches and/or Release Train Engineer(s). In addition, this position is required to ensure effective adoption of practices for program execution and the ongoing development of high-performing agile teams while building a culture of continuous improvement. This role will be responsible for effective communication with stakeholders, removing impediments and escalation as appropriate, risk management, and drive continuous improvement for a scaled Agile initiative. Also, fostering collaborative partnerships required for training and coaching and developing relationships that adopt organizational agility practices and frameworks are a critical component of this role.
Responsibilities:
• Leads a high performing scaled Agile initiative - Agile Release Train through servant leadership
• Scheduling, planning, and facilitating Pl events -Planning sessions, System Demos, Inspect and Adapt sessions, etc.
• Facilitating program increment planning readiness by fostering Continuous Exploration process which drives the combination of Vision, Roadmap, and backlog and through Pre and Post Pl planning Meetings
• Managing and optimizing the flow of value through the program/release
• Coordinate with the Product Management Team to define the release on-demand plan as per prioritized epics/features for a program increment
• Collaborate with Product Management, Product Owners, and other stakeholders to help ensure strategy and execution alignment
• Lead Scrum of Scrums and coordinates with scrum masters and other relevant members of an ART to effectively manage dependencies and risks
• Assist and/or influences program level and portfolio level decision-making with work estimation and prioritization
• Act as a single voice for product releases to assure engineering deliverables are meeting the needs of the business goals
• Supports agile program execution, and escalates and/or resolves program-level impediments
• Responsible for facilitating program level work across a diverse set of agile development teams
• Drive program-level continuous improvement via retrospectives, Inspect and Adapt workshops,
and facilitating constant System demonstration at the program level
• Track and produce key program-level metrics reports (e.g. cumulative flow diagram, Pl burn-up, and burn-down charts, etc.)
• Assist with program execution and tracking completion of features and capabilities
• Channel a strong and broad understanding of how Agile and SAfe delivers value to the organization
• Influence and participate in solution discussions that impact strategic program goals and business outcomes
• Assist with economic decision-making by facilitating feature and capability estimation by teams
• and the roll-up to Program level
• Responsible for ART's adoption of agile practices and processes as defined by the transformation team
• Responsible for mentoring and coaching a scaled agile team to improve the team's agile maturity.
• Has the ability to see the "big picture" and align the right Agile methods and practices in an iterative way as defined by the transformation team
• Ensures transparency related to common goals, especially in support of larger business objectives
• Serve as an SME for Agile Methodologies and specifically for scaled agile methods, defining consistent metrics, dashboards, and/or information radiators to drive data-based decisions
• Must be able to be a voice of reason and authority and build consensus
• Facilitate a healthy team dynamic with respect to priorities and scope
• Facilitate a lean-agile/continuous improvement mindset
• Aware of company control functions and supports agile lean governance activities related to PMO processes
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
Work Experience:
• 15 years of experience managing large programs and/or Product lifecycle experience.
• 2 years of Release Train Engineer at the portfolio level and executive coaching
• 3 years of experience being a team level coach and/or program level coach
• 5 years of people management experience
Proficiency/Required Skills:
• SAFe leading SAFe certification, SAFe RTE certification
• Lean facilitator or any facilitation certification preferred
• Well versed in aggregating Team PI Objectives on Program Pl Objectives, visualize and publish a roadmap for visibility and transparency
• Works effectively with leaders at all levels
• Exemplifies and promotes Agile values and principles Experience facilitating inspect and adapt workshops
• Well versed with planning, facilitating, mentoring, and participating in launching scaled agile initiatives (Agile release trams or Tribes)
Salary : $80 - $100
