GENERAL PURPOSE OF THIS JOB (Summary)


Terra Nova Technologies (TNT), a subsidiary of Cementation, based near San Diego, designs, supplies, delivers and installs material handling systems for mining and mineral processing, coal, aggregate and cement clients throughout the world. Our experience includes delivery of mobile stacking systems, crushing plants, and conveyor projects (stockpile, overland, underground, in-pit, and in-plant) in 15 countries on 6 continents. We currently hold about 80% of the world market in the manufacture and installation of multiple-lift heap leach stacking systems.


TNT currently has an exciting opportunity for Mechanical Engineers. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, positions will be located in each of our three office locations: Santiago Chile, Santee CA, and Boise ID. This role has overall responsibility for providing Mechanical Engineering Services on a variety of projects. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES


Functional Responsibilities

  • Reviewing client specifications and documents
  • Conveyor calculations using Sidewinder and Belt Analyst
  • Feeder calculations
  • Discrete Element Modeling (DEM) of conveyor transfer cutes
  • Responsible for calculation reports, equipment data sheets, equipment lists
  • Component and equipment specification/selection
  • Contacting and working with equipment vendors to ensure proper component selection
  • Vendor drawing review
  • Working alongside and directly with other Mechanical, Structural and Electrical engineers as part of a project team
  • Drawing/design reviews
  • Site visits

Health & Safety

  • Work in compliance with all Health and Safety rules and regulations for Cementation and TNT
  • Incorporate Health and Safety considerations in all functions and daily activities of the position
  • Monitor work environment for health and safety hazards or infractions and reports the same to Health and Safety Department
  • Keep work area clean and free of clutter
  • Use proper equipment for the job, i.e. stepladder vs. chair



QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5-7 years (minimum) experience with material handling/ mechanical design experience in mining/heavy industry
  • Registered (or ability to register) as a professional engineer
  • Understanding industry related codes and standards required


Certificate(s), License(s), Registration(s)

  • Professional Engineer with (PE) designation preferred
  • PMP designation or accreditation preferred

Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities

  • Ability to travel/site visits (short-term basis) required
  • Some Supervision of design and drafting personnel on various projects
  • Strategic leadership skills including ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to implement strategic initiatives that positively impact the operations' business plans, operating profits, practices, policies, and procedures
  • Decision making and prioritization skills
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong planning and organizing skills
  • Possess problem solving, critical thinking skills
  • Proven customer service management experience
  • General knowledge of applicable mining regulations, safety codes and acts
