What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Engineer position at Toledo Solar?
Basic Job Functions:
As a part of the Engineering Team, the Associate Engineer will work with a Senior Engineer to provide support for a wide range of engineering tasks. This may include (but is not limited to) supporting all stages of the product development cycle for modules and adjacent technologies, sales engineering projects, and research and development projects.
Experience:
- Related engineering experience – 1-3 years
- Experience with CAD software (Inventor, Fusion 360, Solidworks, Catia, etc.) – at least 1 year preferred (can be combined professional experience and university work).
- Experience working in a testing/laboratory environment and understanding of measurement/testing equipment (environmental chambers, power supplies, clamp-on current meters, IR camera, etc.) is a plus.
- Experience within the solar industry or in university led solar research is a plus.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering preferred.
Required Skills/Competencies:
- Solid understanding of fundamentals across a variety of engineering disciplines such as statics/dynamics, materials, and basic electronics.
- High level of competency with the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Ability to learn various new applications, such as those for solar modeling or data analysis.
- Proficiency generating and updating 3D models and engineering drawings with CAD software.
- Effective time management skills while working on several projects simultaneously.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work in a fluid and fast-moving environment with limited guidance.
- Demonstrated self-motivation and aptitude for problem-solving.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Aid in conceptualizing and designing solutions to a wide variety of engineering challenges, ranging from updating and improving machinery in the manufacturing line to designing new module mounting hardware, and more.
- Use CAD software to create 3D models to meet required specifications or recreate existing components for modification and redesign.
- Generate engineering drawings using proper dimensioning and tolerancing practices for internal documentation and for manufacture.
- Support ongoing research or product development projects by running standardized and non-standard tests, taking measurements, and recording, organizing, and presenting data.
- Help with machine calibration and maintenance as well as running the manufacturing line when necessary.
- Gain proficiency with solar modeling tools such as PlantPredict, PVsyst, Helioscope and others to build solar system concepts and run/analyze prediction models.
- Use data generated from prediction models to generate proposals showing the advantages of Toledo Solar technologies to aid the sales team.
