What are the responsibilities and job description for the Buyer II (Remote) position at Tolmar?
Core Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Purpose and Scope
Responsible for procurement of critical raw materials and components for the company while ensuring optimal quality and pricing. Evaluates bids and negotiates prices and terms for purchased goods and services. Tracks purchases, monitors vendor quality and maintains database of vendor information.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensure inventory purchase transaction completed as per company procedure/policy.
- Evaluate ERP system demand in addition to supplier quotes to determine the best purchasing plan.
- Follow up with suppliers concerning order status and delivery for communication to impacted departments.
- Review and modify existing orders in an effort to ensure inventory is not over stocked/un-stocked based on changes in the manufacturing production schedule.
- Follow up with suppliers concerning returns, damages, credits and replacement materials.
- Assist the Purchasing Manager in negotiating competitive pricing for all company purchases.
- Implement innovative purchasing techniques to achieve cost reductions, optimal inventory levels and improved vendor performance, including but not limited to new supplier/manufacturer interactions or negotiations and collaboration with current preferred suppliers.
- Attend monthly A.P.R. meetings and actively work to investigate receipt discrepancies, vendor invoice discrepancies and work with suppliers to bring issues to resolution (i.e. product returns/credits).
- Create and maintain department Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions in the electronic document management system.
- Maintain accurate vendor, contact, and pricing information.
- Assist the Purchasing Manager with setting up and maintaining data, accuracy of inventory part numbers within Fourth Shift MRP system.
- Proficiently investigate and complete assigned EG/IRs (exceptions/incident reports) in order to ensure CA/PA, investigations and MRB/Dispositions are resolved timely.
- Prepare monthly supplier forecasts for review by the Purchasing Manager.
- Provide support and guidance to Buyer I and Purchasing Associate as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
- Knowledge of Fourth Shift ERP preferred
- Knowledge of Electronic Document Management System
- Proficient knowledge of EG/IR processes, investigation, CA/PA and MRB disposition.
- Skill in effective organization and time management.
- Skill in vendor negotiations.
- Analytical skills to interpret MRP (Material Requirement Planning) information and purchase appropriate materials.
- Knowledge and ability to implement innovative purchasing programs.
- Ability to communicate professionally with people at all levels of the organization and external contacts.
- Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with vendors.
- Knowledge of cGMP and ISO practices preferred.
Education & Experience
- Associate’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Four or more years’ experience as a Purchasing Generalist or Buyer I.
Working Conditions
- Working conditions are normal for an office environment.
Compensation and Benefits
- Annual pay range $65,000 - $75,000
