What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Engineer position at Toltec Construction?
The Project Engineer will have the following essential duties and responsibilities:
Oversee and manage projects from conception to completion. Connect with the design and implementation teams, ensuring that technical specifications and project requirements are met. Solve technical problems and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards. Supervise the work of self-perform crews and subcontractors, conduct site inspections, and provide technical support to ensure the successful delivery of projects. Control the project plan by reviewing the design, specifications, and plan, scheduling changes, recommending actions, and administering contractor contracts.
Responsibilities
- Review, organize, maintain, and process contract documents and shop drawings
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as drawings, specifications, bid forms, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Verify that shop drawings and submittals from subcontractors meet the specifications on the drawings or project specifications
- Originate or review submittal log and distribute RFI’s and Submittals to pertinent parties
- Ability to communicate well via telephone to schedule work and resolve problems
- Manage in such a manner as to promote professionalism and company values when dealing with contractors, subcontractors, and subordinates
- Assist the Project Manager with construction and project management functions, including planning, scheduling, coordinating subcontractor activities, and conducting safety and quality control audits for assigned projects. Monitor project budgets, including processing modification requests for change orders, subcontractor change orders, and subcontractor invoicing.

Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architectural Design or equivalent
- At least 2 years of experience at a commercial construction company as a Project Engineer
- Must be able to read and interpret construction documents
- A proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook), Adobe/Bluebeam, and Estimating Software preferred but not required.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to identify and resolve complex issues
- Effective participation in a team environment
- Excellent reliability and work ethic.
- Excellent multitasking skills, with the ability to perform duties outside the scope of work when necessary.
- Bilingual preferred but not required
