Overview


We are actively seeking a highly skilled and innovative Senior Data Scientist with a strong focus on machine learning to join our team at Tonal. In this pivotal role, you will apply your deep expertise in machine learning to develop cutting-edge models that enhance our products. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to utilize advanced analytics to improve user experience, develop new product features, and drive strategic decisions. The ideal candidate will be adept in both technical and analytical aspects of data science and possess strong problem-solving abilities and excellent communication skills.

What You Will Do
  • Data-Driven Insights and Modeling: Design, implement, and refine advanced machine learning models using frameworks like TensorFlow and PyTorch. Focus on applications in connected fitness, such as personalized workout recommendations, human performance modeling, and user engagement optimization.
  • Model Deployment and Scaling: Deploy machine learning models into production environments. Ensure models are scalable, efficient, and integrate seamlessly with existing systems.
  • Data Strategy and Analysis: Lead the development of a data strategy that supports machine learning initiatives. Conduct rigorous statistical analysis to validate models and provide actionable insights.
  • Collaborative Research and Development: Work closely with engineers, product managers, and designers to understand requirements and contribute to developing new features and products.
  • Project Leadership: Lead end-to-end projects, demonstrating versatility and ownership. Manage multiple aspects of projects in a dynamic environment.


Who You Are
  • Technical and Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities with fluency in Python and SQL. Extensive experience in machine learning, particularly with TensorFlow and PyTorch, applied to real-world problems. 
  • Industry Experience: 3-5 years in a data-driven environment, preferably in the health/fitness industry. Experience with device sensors and/or user interaction data is a plus.
  • Educational Background: Advanced degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Visualization and Communication: Proficient in statistics and data visualization tools and can communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Innovative and Collaborative Mindset: Creative thinker with a collaborative approach, thriving in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Adaptive and Proactive: Ability to adapt to changing needs and proactively drive projects to completion.


Extra Credit
  • LLM / GenAI Expertise: Experience or knowledge in Large Language Models (LLM) or Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) for production application.
  • Software Development Skills: Strong background in software development, especially proficiency in Python, C, or Go, and experience with software development best practices (e.g., version control, testing, CI/CD).
  • Advanced Algorithm Development: Experience developing and optimizing algorithms for efficiency, scalability, and reliability.
  • Industry Recognition: Contributions to open-source projects and publications in relevant fields. Participation in relevant conferences, workshops, or seminars.

The range of base salary for the position is between $151,000 - $170,000 USD plus equity and benefits. We take into consideration an individual’s background, experience, and location in determining their salary. This role is also eligible for health insurance, retirement savings benefits, life insurance and disability benefits, flexible paid time off, parental leave, and other additional benefits.
