Job Opportunity: Farm Manager
The Tonry Tree Farm is a cut-your-own Christmas Tree Farm in Hampton Falls, New Hampshire, in operation for nearly 60 years. In addition to Christmas trees, we grow and create our own wreaths and decorations for sale. The Tonry Tree Farm is located in the beautiful seacoast New Hampshire region, about an hour north of Boston.
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Farm Manager to oversee aspects of our long-standing tree farm operation. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in agriculture and/or forestry, a passion for sustainability, and excellent communication and teamwork skills. This role offers the opportunity to help grow a well-known business while contributing to the joy of the holiday season for families and local communities.
Responsibilities:
Farm Operations Management:
- Collectively work on activities related to the planting, cultivation, maintenance, and harvesting of Christmas trees.
- Implement efficient farming practices to ensure optimal tree growth, health, and quality.
- Maintain equipment, machinery, and infrastructure to support farm operations.
- Monitor and manage irrigation, fertilization, pest control, and weed management programs.
- Collectively assist with the setup and maintenance of retail areas, including displays, other holiday products.
Environmental Stewardship:
- Promote and uphold sustainable farming practices to minimize environmental impact and preserve natural resources.
- Explore opportunities for renewable energy, waste reduction, and habitat conservation on the farm.
- Stay informed about industry trends, regulations, and certifications related to environmental sustainability and responsible land management.
Safety and Compliance:
- Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries during farm operations.
- Obtain/maintain a NH Pesticide Applicator License. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) when operating machinery and handling chemicals.
- Adhere to local regulations and environmental standards regarding tree farming practices and land management.
Our Ideal Candidate:
- Has extensive experience working on farms.
- Has a bachelor's or associate’s degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry or similar program.
- Has mechanical skills operating and maintaining small and large farm equipment.
- Has interest in tree cultivation techniques, pest and disease management.
- Holds a NH Pesticide Applicator License or is willing to obtain one.
- Is able to work flexible hours including weekends during peak season (November-December).
- Is committed to safety, quality, and environmental stewardship in all aspects of farm operations.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time in the cold or the heat, climb stairs, lift approximately 50 lbs. and carry and operate equipment.
