Summary:
We are looking for a Sales Tax Manager to manage all aspects of our sales tax process. This includes: auditing returns, reconciling withholdings, submitting timely and accurate payments, software implementation to improve the process, educating staff to minimize assessments and serve as the point person for all sales tax audits.
You’ll be responsible for preparing and auditing monthly sales tax documents and updating software. You will perform financial transactions and post them in the general ledger, with strong attention to detail. You will also carry out relevant administrative duties (e.g. responding to tax agencies via email and handling invoices).
Ultimately, you will ensure the company’s sales tax payments are timely and accurate.
Responsibilities
● Maintain and update sales tax records and files
● Examine sales tax policies and handle sales tax payments and returns
● Post transactions and categorize records in the general ledger (e.g. by assets, liabilities and expenses)
● Reconcile tax payments
● Analyze transactions with internal and external stakeholders
● Conduct month-end closures
● Accrue the correct amount of sales tax
● Prepare documents for audits
● Advise staff on sales tax issues via email or phone
● Apply new accounting policies and ensure compliance with rules and regulations
● Report to the Corporate Controller and work to improve financial processes
Requirements
● Similar experience as a sales tax manager or analyst or relevant role in accounting
● Excellent use of Microsoft Office Word and Excel; excellent with spreadsheets
● Knowledge of an accounting information system is a plus
● Good math skills
● Attention to detail
● Strong organizational and communication skills
● Confidentiality and integrity
● Degree in Accounting; MSc is a plus
