General Laborer - Material Mixing and Furnace Loading

TOPS has partnered with a local manufacturing company looking to find a career orientated individual to add to its union work force. This is an entry level position, our client is willing to teach you the skills need to be successful and grow with the company.
This is a very physical job. This position will involve a lot of manual labor type activities such as shoveling of raw materials and pushing or pulling loaded carts of material around facility. Must be ok working around a melting furnace, environment can be hot during certain times of the year.

Job Details:
Contract to hire position
Shift: Typically a train on daylight shift 7am to 3pm for up to one month. Then transition to a second shift (3pm to 11pm) or night shift (11pm to 7am). Shift assignment is done by seniority and a bidding process as its a union company.
Monday through Friday schedule – but must be available to work weekends when required.
Pay Rate: $16.35hr
Performance evaluation done at 45 and 90 days with a chance for pay increases up to $19hr.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Shoveling raw material (powder) into carts to move throughout facility
  • Mixing of raw materials, using a scale to measure correct weights of each material
  • Push/ Pull carts around facility to transport material
  • Load furnace with raw material – shovel mix into furnace
  • Help clean up facility, sweep up work areas, organize work area.
  • Help form clay molds used in furnace. Will train on process.

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 1 year minimum experience in manufacturing or labor intensive environment.
  • Prior laboring experience would be ideal.

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods.
  • Frequent lifting of 50lbs
  • Frequent shoveling activities
