Torch Technologies is seeking a multidisciplinary scientist with expertise in testing and modeling of hypersonic Thermal Protection Systems (TPS). Job responsibilities will include: 1) supporting testing of TPS materials at high-enthalpy ground test facilities at various locations in the United States, 2), coordinating with the Torch team to analyze optical remote sensing data to extract optical properties, 3) coordinating with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) at universities, industry and government to be knowledgeable of state-of-the-art modeling of dynamic thermal-chemical material response in harsh hypersonic environments, and 4) coordinating with the Torch team to generate data-driven models that predict the dynamic material optical response (e.g., emissivity) during hypersonic flight conditions.
A successful candidate will possess an understanding and background in at least four of the following areas:
Academic and practical experience with high temperature TPS materials and good computational software skills are required. Experience with testing at hypersonic high-enthalpy tunnels is desired.
BS and 2 years experience required
MS or PhD in High Temperature Material Science is highly preferred.
A well-suited candidate will be self-motivated, with demonstrated communication skills (oral and written), and be capable of working both in a small team and unsupervised.
United States citizenship is required. Position requires that candidate meet requirements to obtain a final Department of Defense security clearance. Inability to obtain a security clearance will result in candidate being ineligible for this position. Position may require travel.
