A Day In The Life of a Junior Mechanical Buyer
The position you are applying for is responsible for procuring catalog and manufactured materials to produce the company’s products. You must have critical negotiating skills and the ability to source materials from approved vendors.
Essential Duties of The Junior Mechanical Buyer
- Screening and evaluating a supplier to choose the best materials, products, or services for their business
- Develop business relationships with suppliers and clients.
- Evaluate vendors based on Quality, Cost, and Delivery, and design strategies to minimize the cost/time required to acquire materials and exploit relationships.
- Manage vendor relationships while building effective partnerships. Develop and implement purchasing strategies for all products in a manner that is the most cost-effective and beneficial to the company.
- Responsible for promptly resolving any vendor claims due to defective or unacceptable products, goods, or services.
- Mechanical/Electrical Buyer aspects will play an active role in improving quality, efficiencies, and cost containment/reduction, as well as overseeing all new projects from a material development and inventory standpoint.
- Responsible for securing agreements with vendors and negotiating the best total prices.
- Process outside service orders
- Handle the requirements for higher-value purchases.
- Member of the inventory team
- Propose improvements to management regarding activities that include purchasing and inventory.
- Other Duties - Any reasonable task requested by the company.
Education (or equivalent years of experience):
- College degree, five years of experience Buyer
Training Requirements (licenses, programs, or certificates):
- APICS training is a plus.
- Proficient in Excel & PowerPoint
Experience:
- Previous supply chain experience.
Knowledge Requirements:
- Strong computer skills
- Working knowledge of the MRP system, along with proven experience in the supply chain as a buyer.
