Overview
Security Officers are responsible for observing and reporting safety and security hazards affecting the personnel and property of the University; and to assist in enforcing University Safety and Security rules and regulations. The Security officer interacts with a variety of persons including; faculty; staff; students; contractors; vendors; visitors; public safety officials; and the general public.

Responsibilities
Accountabilities:
1.1. Property movement compliance
1.2. Regulating and directing traffic, as necessary
1.3. Parking Compliance
1.4. Escorts, as requested
2.1. Notifying, assisting, and directing emergency personnel as necessary
2.2. Security access of authorized personnel into the University
2.3. Patrolling, inspecting and/or securing access to the premises
2.4. Operating telephone, radio, and motor vehicle equipment
3.1. Responding, compiling and reporting all information in regard to theft, alarms, accidents, and other incidents that may occur
3.2. Report all building utility/service issues, as observed, to the Facilities Dept.
3.3. Monitor alarm/panels for emergencies that might arise within the facility
4. Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D Required.
Experience:
- Prior Law Enforcement, Military, or Security Experience
- Valid Nevada Driver’s License
Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to work independently
- Customer Service Skills
- Ability to handle emergencies
- Radio Communications
- Basic computer skills
- Good verbal and written communications
- Ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs.
- Must have sufficient hearing to respond to normal verbal speech, alarms, radio and telephone communications
- Must have sufficient visual acuity to read and understand faculty/staff listings, posted orders, maps, computer screens, check identification, and to distinguish the faces of faculty/staff, contractors, vendors, guests and visitors
- Must be able to stand, walk and/or drive for up to 90% of the assigned shift
- Must be able to respond quickly to incidents and emergencies (“Rapid Response”). Rapid Response may include, but is not limited to, running, squatting, crouching, kneeling, climbing, standing for long periods of time, and operating Touro vehicles
- Must have a command of the English language that is easily understood
