Seeking an energetic, creative recreation programmer to join our award winning program staff in a suburban department, just outside of Boston. The Burlington Parks and Recreation Department prides itself on providing comprehensive, culturally relevant programs and events, and ensuring that they are accessible to all community members. The Burlington Parks & Recreation Department is recognized nationally for its robust programming and events. The department offers nearly 300 unique programs annually, serving all ages and abilities.
Highlights of responsibilities include:
Organize, implement, and evaluate community recreation programs for youth and adults which are culturally, socially, mentally, and physically based;
Research, develop and make recommendations for new and innovative programs and events.
Assist in the recruitment, supervision and retention of part-time program staff and volunteers.
Market programs, services and events using social media, flyers, brochures, and local media outlets.
Maintain records of departmental activities such as program attendance and numbers of participants; prepare and analyze related reports.
Assist in developing cooperative working relationships with local service organizations, community groups, and businesses, and other departments.
Other duties which relate to recreation programming.
Minimum requirements include:
Bachelor’s Degree in Park and Recreation Administration, Leisure Studies, or related fieldwith 3 years full-time experience in recreational management and programming, preferably in a municipal setting.
Valid motor vehicle operator’s license
Current certification in CPR and First Aid preferred
Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) preferred
Must be willing and able to work additional hours as programming dictates, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Strong customer service training and experience required
Full time position, 35 hours per week, with additional hours as programming dictates including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
This is a union position within the Burlington Municipal Employees Association bargaining unit. Salary is within Grade 10 of the BMEA contract.
Pay range starts at $36.44/hr with the opportunity to advance to a max rate of $50.96/hr through annual increases, and includes comprehensive and generous benefits.
